Hi! I'm wanting to learn geomancy, so I was wondering if Mod Ardruna had any pointers for a newbie! If need be, I can come off anon.
Hi there, anon! I’m glad to hear you’re interested in becoming a geomancer!
First things first, you should get to know your geomantic figures and the process creating them and charts to use them. Wikipedia has some fairly good basic instructions for how to do a reading. You can also pick up books on the subject. The book I started with was “Earth Divination: Earth Magic: A Practical Guide to Geomancy” by John Michael Greer.
Once you’ve gotten your basic techniques down, as with any divination method, it becomes a matter of letting the figures speak to you, which will come with practice. You don’t need any special tools to use geomancy, so learn to let yourself be the conduit. Try not to overthink it; in most cases, your instincts will guide you to the right answer. Learn to trust your intuition.
Most of all, as a novice geomancer, remember that it’s OK if things don’t make sense at first. Sometimes, meanings aren’t obvious. It’s OK if you don’t get it right the first time, or even the second or third time. Give yourself the freedom to be mistaken.
And, just a personal thought: whenever possible, try to end your readings on a positive note. Even if it doesn’t seem like the reading has anything good to say, try to find the lessons in it, or the path of growth that it can lead to.
If you’re interested more in 1-on-1 support in learning, feel free to message me on my personal blog (http://pointy-eared-muse.tumblr.com).
I hope this helps you get started! Happy readings, and let me know how it goes!
