A Public Statement
As has become increasingly, abundantly clear about how things have progressed, information has come to light about goings on both on and off of this site and Gliscord that have shone a light on things that I had not accounted for.
I had accounted for permissions. I had accounted for funding. I had accounted for expertise. I had accounted for safeguards.
Everything on our front should have been working correctly. Had been working correctly. Is still working correctly. Our work is sound. Our systems are sound. Our results are sound.
I had not accounted for human error and intent.
It seems, in my haste to defend us, I had managed to rather soundly forget what a publicly funded organization should have done: investigate these claims thoroughly. And I know what many may state when they hear that: "We have not found any wrongdoing after a private internal investigation". This is not that kind of statement.
With the help of the leader of the Taskforce Distortion, information had come to light that a slip-up on our part had led to a leak. One that has very firmly been sealed. It was not a fault of the system. It was a fault of the user. And I am taking proper corrective measure to ensure this never happens again and that the results of this leak have proper measures taken to minimize or prevent any damage. Affected parties will be reached out to promptly.
Support will nonetheless be... tense from this point forward. At least from you all. And I do understand that. This blog is a public-facing one. Which does mean that the University of Jubilife has been shown this statement before publication. Our funding will continue, but we have additional criteria for our progress reports to file to ensure this does not happen again. Science is about taking risks, yes, but taking steps to minimize it is key.
As it stands, though, I want to put my money where my mouth is.
I have extended an offer to the leader of the Taskforce Distortion, Shadow, for cooperation. They were fundamental in finding this leak and informing me of its consequences. Their knowledge of the Distortion World, as well, could be astronomical in its furtherance of our research and how to handle things going forward. And to my surprise?
They accepted.
I have further work to put forth on a bureaucratic level to ensure that this can be done in an official capacity, but the University has been informed, has been handed relevant information, and will be in contact with myself as the liaison for further establishment of this future partnership.
Thank you for your understanding. And for your support if you deem us worthy to continue offering it.
