On this week's very special edition of BehindTheMarried, we'll be taking a look at The Panels.
As stated previously, this week's upd8 is a recreation of the first art we ever drew for the comic all the way back in December 2023. Here it is!
The first version was drawn during the discord call where we came up with the premise (inspired by a few similar jokes we'd seen floating around on tumblr). We thought it was incredibly funny, so DS created the second version to fit into the 450×650 panel format. And the rest is history....

DS: Obviously, the art is more refined in the third version. I don't usually try too hard to stay on-model, but I wanted this part to look nice. This was also finished the week I fucked up my hand, so as I was drawing the last two panels I kept saying "Owie", "Yyyyeowch!", and things along those lines.
It's also pretty funny to see that Secretary Dirk was there from day one. I really wanted an excuse to have him in the comic so I'm glad we were able to snowball my 20px wide doodle of him into an elaborate gag. You can get pretty far if you just start with a punchline and work backwards.

Comic is updating tomorrow, hopefully. The wifi in my apartment building has been broken since Thursday because the box lit on fire. Karkat Is Married will return. - Mod DS.
