Just wanted to tell ye that your edits are just amazing holy Any tips for beginners? - Witch of Blood anon

Thank you that means so much to us!! As for any tips.... Well i dont know about mod Dave but i tend to try and mimic the style pesterquest/ homestuck already provides me! (though recently i started going nuts and add my own little changes!)

As for the colouring i tend to go for a unsaturated colors (unless asked for more saturated ones) since thats what the styles tend to go for!

And for me the hardest part would be the shading i guess? I dont usually follow the shade dave with dark red/ shade john with dark blue rules since i want the edit to pop to the eye (??? dont know how to explain) so i usually just use the way i always shade (just multiply the shading layer and go with a bright purple over red, bright red over pink, bright blue over grey, etc etc.)

I tend to do the sketches first (unless its not a detailed request like just a change of hair color and stuff like that) and then lineart and yada yada!

And idk thats all that comes to my mind rn! I hope any of these tips r helpful (probs not lol) Mod Dave will fill later with their tips doe so keep an eye open for that (;B

a bit thing with sprite editing is recoloring stuff.

one of my biggest tips is to use the selection tool for your program (both me and mod kk use medibang) and select the area you wanna change and then use the hue, saturation, and luminosity sliders.

sometimes tho this trick doesnt work and it's just easier to trace the lineart n stuff and just recolor it that way.

I cant think of much else that mod kk didnt say but if I do think of something I'll probably add it later.

im also quite new to edits lol so I'm still learning but hopefully this helps at all B)

hey, mod ds chiming in with more shit -

- i also use medibang and i also try to mimic the pq style as much as humanly possible

- i do generally tend to follow the rule of shading characters with their theme colors, and usually hue bend the greys and blacks to that color

- like mod dave i do a lot of recoloring/hsv stuff but i also just reline stuff sometimes because its easier to do that for me

there isnt much here that wasnt already said if im entirely honest but i’m also very new to editing sprites so its mostly practice and redoing shit until it looks decent haha

I'm not sure if this counts as a request? If it does you can ignore it bc of the whole requests being closed thing. But, if it isn't; do you have any tips on sprite editing? It seems really fun, and as much as I get skill comes with experience i'd like to know if you have any pointers with this sort of thing. Thank you ahead of time if you answer this!

hey! just a tip but those aren’t what proper goat ears look like! on any goat you’ll notice that they have a sharp tip, and get smaller as they go from the start, the base of the ear is where It’s biggest, Boer goats are an exception to this! they have big floppy ears, but share the same trait, I own 17 goats, all with different ears, but they mostly share the same design! Id recommend looking up ‘boer goat’ when you get rqs for long floppy ears :) 🤟-

What is each Mod individually best at? Like, which Mod specializes in Sprite edits while the other does Panel edits? Or are you guys not that specialized?

hey, mod ds here! i personally only have experience with sprite edits and kin sketches, but i’d be willing to try my hand at other shit

mod karkat is the only one that does shufflemancies/pendulum readings/tarot readings! other than that, though, i don’t think we’re all that specialized - we all just kinda tackle requests as they come in, y’know?

hey would it be possible to get a calliope edit using one of the pesterquest sprites?? if not you can ignore this aaa ;u; if thats possible, then using maybe terezi or roses sprites? with the swirls on her cheeks, not the solid circles. with her regular outfit of the green suit with the red bowtie, but with a sew on square patch on the left side that has a venus symbol and says "butch is beautiful" on it?? thank you ^u^
