okay so i've always been confused about this but do ALL muslims not eat pork or drink? i want to write a muslim character but i'm not sure about that stuff as i'm writing headcanons and stuff and is it like very frowned upon if muslims do drink or eat pork? i hope this makes sense fjsjf
it does make sense and you’re not wrong for being confused ! as per islamic law , the consumption of alcohol and pork is haram/forbidden. most muslims don’t eat pork , but a hefty amount still drink. furthermore , some muslims won’t eat straight up pork but will eat products that contain pork gelatin ( either they don’t bother looking up if it has beef or pork gelatin or they just don’t care -- it varies by the individual ). it’s not anybody’s place to define some set criterion for how muslims MUST act , considering the Q’uran and Hadith already told us what to do and we aren’t to police each other on the religion. i don’t consume any pork or alcohol , but my muslim muse , however , drinks alcohol. it’s not disrespectful to let your muse drink or eat pork if they’re muslim , but i’d say you should steer away from the pork bit because a vast majority of muslims refuse to eat it -- even the ones who do super shady stuff otherwise. to condense : it is frowned upon in the culture to drink alcohol and eat pork , but it isn’t uncommon to find muslims who do either/both. it depends on the person.
