just some headcanon of mine. captain obvious at your service.

Courfeyrac and Grantaire are alike a little. they both are loud, easy laughing, smart, both have really sharp tongue, both have disobedient dark curles, dark freckles, moles near eyes, striking gestures.
both of them are loved for smooth temper, for their help at anytime, for always listening, for always coming when they're needed or not, for that they are just there for friends and somebody who needs help, for that they are not offensive, and forgive everything easily. and they both ready to follow Enjolras till the very end. Courfeyrac - because Enjolras is his best friend, and R - you know why.
but Grantaire are obnoxiously loud, his jokes are always almost mockery, his talkativeness is sometimes pointless, but funny, he can laugh at himself like it's the best talant he has or even the only one, his facial expressions are less animated and active then Courfeyrac's, rarely he has that motionless stare, bitter laugh, sudden storm of spleen and dark melancholy, which he hides behind the alcohol very well. R is overfull with the world around him, the world, which he doesn't appreciate, from which he hides. The world for which he is not good enough. R is overfull with his feelings for Enjolras also. but from them he doesn't hide, he runs towards to them with open arms, with drunken gait, with wide and sharp smile, tousled hair and very nervous. R is exposed, unequipped, almost condemned, he is broken. and beside Enjolras, Grantaire are recovered, and sometimes you may see, if you look carefully, who he could become, may see every "what ifs" in him.
Courfeyrac in his turn is so alive, joyful, loud, graceful, he is always in sight. he has cracking pace, sincere laugh, he is never desperate and almost never steps back. he really has good temper, almost nothing can send him up the wall, make him shout or get him upset. from Combeferre he learns to live according to plan, it's not exactly a plan, but the choice of the most advantageous variants, and he is rational about this choice. Courfeyrac is very emotional, his emotions are warm, even hot, he is very active, hyperactive actually, I think he may have ADHD) so he's just really hyperactive, he wants to know everything, saw everything, feel everything, talk about everything, travel a lot, and other stuff, like dance, different jobs, education or smth. the world is his friend, he loves it, the sun warms him up gently, never burn. he is the loveliest person, and everyone loves him, it's difficult not to, and noone even tries.
Combeferre is nothing like Courfeyrac and R, of course. he is calm and steady. sometimes, it may seem that he thinks slowly. but in fact he has so much information in his head at every moment, that everyone who collides with this - can't stand it. he likes knowlegde more then everything in his life exept his friends and all the liberté, égalité, fraternité thing (: it do not bother him. he is a little nerdy, more nerdy then Courfeyrac and Enjolras but they have this in common with R. they have HP-sleepovers and scarfs, they quote Star Wars to each other and R draws the Death Star for him. Combeferre is suspended, every his decision is - he solves his problems like equations, he builds them in his head sometimes for weeks. his plans are always well thought-out, his emotions are always soft, his gestures are always thorough and clear, when you look at him receives the impression that he can't be more balanced, more in harmony with himself. he can't structure his emotions properly sometimes, but he lives with it pretty well and controls them perfectly even in critical situations. And since he has known Courfeyrac he has more positive emotions. Combeferre has about him an aura of calmness and greatness, like Enjolras has about him an aura of an explosion.
so and Enjolras is actually very unbalanced. he learns how to control himself, but he still has emotional flares from time to time. he supresses them a lot. he is easily becoming furious, it's really obvious what he thinks, easy to read his face. he is exclusively rectilineal, exclusively imperious (in really good point, leadership is deep in his nature), exclusively impulsive, exclusively stubborn. may be R is more stubborn then him in his self-hatred, but it's only exeption. Enjolras is impatient, but purposeful and full of tolerance. he is active, he needs always do something about everything. like R needs observe. Enjolras is easy rising to provocations and surprisingly naive. in fact he is actually bad-tempered, too sharp from every angle, too clear, too bright to be near, too straight, too hard-edged and at the same time Enjolras is the light himself, he is so in love with his ideas, he is so sure about his ideals, about LIBERTY, about his plans to make everyones lifes better, he is dreaming about helping everyone, that his temper, his sharpness and even his little bit of violence - don't matter at all. he evokes love and hatred, noone stays indifferent.
