Call them reagan democrats, clinton democrats, blue dog democrats, or biden democrats,... no matter what you call them, centrist dems are the reason that we ended up with trump now. “Moderate” corporate dems are the washington generals of politics. They excel at not putting up a good fight against the right, but they fight like hell against the left. Their sole purpose is to provide a distraction as they repeatedly lose ground to conservatism.
Incredibly disappointed in the moderate Dems right now. As *soon* as Biden's win was projected, they turned on AOC, the squad, and other progressive Dems. Said they were the reason Biden almost lost.
For one thing, this wasn't actually that close of an election. It only seemed like that because Republicans purposefully made it difficult to count votes by mail and encouraged their base to vote in person, leading to the "Red Mirage" where majority Republican votes were counted first.
When everything is said and done, Biden will likely have a popular vote lead of 5-7 million, and a pretty big electoral college lead. Possibly larger than Trump's in 2016, which was called a landslide.
Maybe they're thinking of it being close in Georgia, but Georgia hasn't been blue in almost three decades. The fact that it turned blue at all is largely due to progressives and their allies (cutting off some comments now- I know Stacey Abrams isn't exactly progressive herself, but she worked alongside progressives and progressive organizations, and she's not the only one to thank for blue Georgia). Additionally, Biden's lead there is still growing.
Even then, Biden didn't really need Georgia. Don't get me wrong, I'm so happy it's blue. But even without the states where his win was narrow, Biden would've won from the electoral votes of states where he has a pretty big lead.
True, it's saddening that Trump got so many votes given his character and his policies, but Biden did not "almost lose". Moderate Dems are just using that as an excuse to turn away from progressives now that they don't need them to defeat Trump anymore. They're also whining because a lot of moderate Dems lost their seats this election- while most (if not all) the progressive Dems not only retained their seats but often increased their percentage of the vote by a stunning amount.
What they don't seem to understand is... Young people in this country are learning (and a lot of the older generations too). We have access to the internet and resources and people in other countries, the likes of which very few generations have ever had before. We know it can be better. We know the US is a very right-wing country compared to other first world countries. We've seen the effects of progressive programs both in theory and in action. And we've experienced what happens when governments do not take care of their people.
It's not the progressive Dems' fault that Biden "almost lost". If anything, the idea that "nothing would change" and "Biden and Trump are the same" probably discouraged a lot of people from voting, or encouraged them to vote for other parties. Maybe a candidate who seemed like an actual change would've drawn those people in, while still retaining all those votes Biden got purely out of party loyalty and anti-Trumpism.
They're trying to use this moment as an excuse to return to the status quo, because that's what's comfortable for them and their pockets. Hooray, we've defeated the Big Bad Trump, let's wander off into the sunset and live peacefully like we did four years ago. But Trump's presidency radicalized a lot of people, for better or worse, and this country is not what it was four years ago. People are not who they were four years ago.
As we've said- for now, we will celebrate, we will rejoice, and we will appreciate all the hard work and comraderie that went into tearing Trump from power. We get to take a breath and relax our shoulders and unclench our jaws, even if it's just for a moment.
But the systems that allowed him to get that power in the first place are still around, and I think a lot of people have opened their eyes to that fact in recent months- if not before then. Moderate Dems whining and whinging and tossing the blame at their own party members will not help them, it will not help the country, and it definitely will not help the people who live here, in a time when the people need that help so dearly.
They need to do better. And if they don't, we will hold them accountable.
ur not "moderate" ur center-right
