I’ll have you know I’m currently stuck in modern day blacksmith Bucky world where he does a job at the renaissance fair and loves the ye old corn dog reader. Because ever since we talked about it, I just laugh thinking of various scenarios. Moral of the story: it’s hilarious and fun to craft these what if’s with you 😂

Ahh! Look. I'm also still thinking of our beautiful modern blacksmith. Bucky, who looks so cold and off-putting to everyone else, totally smitten as you bring him a corn dog or another treat because there's no way you're going to let him work all day on an empty stomach.

The same Bucky who forges you that dragon's tear necklace and acts like it isn't a big deal when he gives it to you, but his chest swells with pride and his cheeks get a bit pink when he sees you wear it the next day.

Bucky who practically growls at a "knight" fighting for your honor and proceeds to show just how good he is with a sword. He doesn't just make them, he masters how to use those very weapons. He may even dance once he has won your hand simply because you asked.

You honestly wonder how long it'll take before he breaks and drags you into the woods to have his way with you against a tree. But he'll take you on a proper date as well. You deserve that and more.

I love him so much and I love crafting these worlds with you, too. ❤️

I need more AUs like a hole in the head, but I adore the thought of one of our men being a glassblower.

And someone being a modern blacksmith making custom metal items and more for clients. 🔥

With the glass blower and black smith those are some of the hottest (temperature) jobs, like imagine reader walking in to see her hard working sweaty man and getting a little stupid about the way his biceps glow near the fire

Had to use a Hal gif for some shine.

And I agree, nonnie, that I probably would get a little stupid walking in and seeing his biceps shine. And it's even better since we know he's making some beautiful pieces. Just imagine the care he puts into custom pieces. 🥰

I could easily see Bucky and Steve doing jobs like these. Anyone else?

Your glasblower post had me immediately thinking: Thor. Born in Norway, a real Northmen who learned how to blow glas and forge metal from his father, who learned it from his father and so on. His adopted brother betrayed him and took over the family business. Thor couldn't take it, moved to the States and opened a shop of his own. Sometimes he buys a bunch of flowers from the florist across the street to decorate the beautiful precious glassware in his shop window. He also displays his metal handicrafts like hammers and axes and the baker from next door is looking for customized trays for his new oven. He becomes friends with his shop neighbours quickly and one day his new friends and their S/Os set him up with one of their friends and that's how Thor met you.

Thor would excel at that craft, nonnie, and I adore that backstory! He really would make the most beautiful pieces and would get along so well with Steve and Bucky. 🥰

Talking about the Modern Blacksmith

Back in April, Lyle had the honor of speaking at a meeting of the Curiosity Club. It's a fantastic lecture series run by the fine folks at Hand Eye Supply, a "workstyle" shop here in Portland.

If you were in attendance, you learned about the evolution of the blacksmith's trade. You brought your questions: How have the basic techniques and tools changed, and how have they stayed the same? What do forges and smithies look like around the world? What exactly is an anvil, and what's that little notch for on top? You also got to drink free beer, munch on yummy snacks, and meet fellow curious folks, including an African grey parrot.

In other words, you had an awesome time, and you should go back. These things happen regularly. Plus, you probably need more gorgeous drafting pencils, a stylish triangle or two, and several graph paper notebooks. Or you just need to look at them.
