The designs to "modernize" women's traditional clothing by making it tighter and shorter isn't done to men's. Look at pictures of women in dirndls a hundred years ago, their boobs weren't popping out of their tops like what you see during Oktoberfest today. Meanwhile the men's lederhosen still looks exactly the same.
Another example of this would be the Chinese qipao/cheongsam. The men show the same amount of skin as they did before while the women now wear tight-fit slit dresses.
