This Saturday August 3rd, 11am EST, and Wednesday August 7th, 8:30pm EST, ALGAE is hosting a Games Night!

Member participation in the last two meeting topics has left ModLars and I completely floored. Thank you everyone for your fantastic LG media recommendations, and history tidbits! It has been an absolute pleasure to have so many of you actively participating in meeting discussions.

When ALGAE was still being formed, we were worried that members wouldn't be engaged, or would quickly lose focus in discussions. We hoped closing off meetings with a Game-Portion, would alleviate that. Apparently it was an unnecessary precaution though, because we are regularly exceeding the 2-hour meeting time just discussing the topic at hand!

To adapt, ModLars and I have decided that Games deserve their own night. We believe it's important to mix in light-hearted fun, with our heavier discussion topics. If reception is good, we plan to hold a Games Night between every two or three regular topics. We think this will also be beneficial to newer members, and anyone who wasn't able to attend our Ice-Breaker Introductory Meetings.

.:The Games:.

~GAME 1#: “Nice To Meet Shoe”~ We've been meaning to play this game for a while, sorry about the delay! How to play: Names are hard to remember, and profile-icons can change - but a picture, is worth a thousand words. This game involves players sharing a picture of a benign article of clothing (in this case a shoe), that tells other members something about themselves. What to Bring: A picture of a shoe that can tell us something about you! Take us for a walk in your shoes (I cannot be stopped).  This does not have to be personally incriminating. Google Images are perfectly acceptable. Don’t be afraid to get creative - here’s the image I plan to use for this game:

~GAME 2#: “Rolling Stories”~

I've restrained myself. No Pun. Seeing how many aspiring creators there are among ALGAE, and hot off the heels of our LG Media discussion, this seemed perfect! How to play: It may go by different names depending on where your from, but Rolling Stories is a collaborative writing exercise that often yields hilarious results. Each player begins by writing 3 sentences to begin a story. Once done, they pass it on, for the next player to add to. These steps are repeated until the story makes it back to the original player, and then the stories are read aloud. The only rule, is the player receiving the story to add to, is only allowed to read the last three sentences written. What to Bring: Obviously, being on online group, things will operate a little differently than IRL. But don't worry. ModLucy's gotcha covered. Come prepared with a word-processing program that has the ability to change the colour of text. (WPS and OpenOffice are great free alternatives to Word).

~Closing Thoughts~

For anyone wondering about the originally posed 'Drawn Together' game, don't fret. Due to time constraints, it has been left off this Game-Night's list to make room for ‘Rolling Stories’. This is because ‘Rolling Stories’ is building up to a future Discussion Topic (survey vote coming soon). But! You'll see it again next Games Night!

Speaking of, we have been hard at work on an ALGAE Event Calendar, so everyone can be more easily kept in the loop of what’s coming up in future meetings. A more detailed post will be going up soon!

We're so sorry we've been gone.

Sorry we took a week off the pod- both Lucy and Astrid had a bad case of the having a life last week, but we are now cured and will be making a juicy pod for you today, which will hopefully be up soon.

Saturday Meeting..?

Hello!

I wanted to issue an apology for the late notice - myself and ModLars have been out of state respectively, and away from tumblr with IRL commitments.

We're also experiencing a few technical issues with the discord and may need to postpone today's meeting until we can get it sorted.

I'm sorry o didn't set up some sort of reminder sooner. Being across several new timezones I managed to muddle my alarm for set-up time!

I think the last anon was about including homosexual trans people but not heterosexual trans people?

That makes sense!

We’ve tried to stick to non-slang terms like ‘homosexual’ and ‘hereosexual’ for that reason - as ‘gay’ and ‘straight’ are often used a lot more loosely in online spaces.
