Rico Dalasam - “Não Posso Esperar”
Most Brazilian fans of hip-hop are already aware of Rico Dalasam and his stance as "the first out-of-the-closet Brazilian gay rapper," but is only with his debut EP that we could attest the quality of his music. The first track of Modo Diverso ("Diverse Mode," a pun on lack of gender and sexuality diversity in the hip-hop market), "Não Posso Esperar" ("I Can't Wait") brings EDM synths, dance music allusions (in the "one more night" hook) and a flow that brings to mind local artists like Flora Matos, Karol Conká and even a bit of Don L. This tale of luxuriate love with little room for ambiguity and driven by a sincere feeling of freedom is my favorite track, and although I think the mixing of the whole EP could be better done, the possibilities painted by the music and lyrics are way thrilling.
