M.O.D.O.K. (ONLY for killing?!)
Look at that!
- THAT, my friends, is a thing of nightmares.
He was created in a lab, and he's called M.O.D.O.K. (Mechanized Organism Designed Only for Killing).
ONLY for killing?! Why?! Who would allow this?!
I'm a lover of science. The way I see it, life sucks, and we need all the help we can get.
BUT, M.O.D.O.K. is not the only "Why the Bleep?" moment in history.
Two-Headed Dog
(there are real-life photos of it, but they're too sad)
The Halloween Whopper
(turned peoples poop green, but even if it didn't
... you know??)
And there are plenty of examples of PEOPLE being made to be experiments, all in the name of science and sometimes war... or unconscionable curiosity. I could go there, but that's not really the tone I'm trying to set.
The point is sometimes human advancement brings us delights such as Ninja Juicers, and Netflix, and other times we get something that’s ONLY for killing.
Sorry. Wrong pic.
... and other times we get something that’s ONLY for killing.
(Look at Cap - weakened just by the sight of MODOK. And I bet that blonde has got some awful stories. Imagine if Deshaun Watson had mind control powers *yikes*)
To make this nightmarish thing more likable they stuffed the comically-talented Patton Oswalt into the role.
No one is better at taking horrible facts, and finding the funny there than comedians.
Add some other comedic actors around him (Melissa Fumero, Aimee Garcia, Ben Schwartz) and :
Aaah, that's better. I'm laughing already.
But, he's still a villain. AND he's also a family man. I've often pondered about the possibilities of balancing a family with taking over the world. This show has inspired me.
He's also kind of a "loser". He comes to the realization of this fact and it's both sad and funny.
Just like there are tiers to heroes:
Avengers
Power Rangers
Squirrel Girl
LeBron James. So on and so forth.
It's the same with villains.
MODOK falls into the... idk... he's somewhere between the Jeff Bezos tier and "Batman and Robin"s Bane tier.
There's comedy, relatability, and a few heart-warming moments, but also some time travel, some gluttony, and plenty of killing.
The peeps from Robot Chicken got a hold of this; their humor is pretty twisted.
Some of my favs:
The apocalypse ponies.
These biblical ponies visit some kids at home. I think you can imagine what happens. You see the pony of death there.
Then, there’s this -
A few cute animal "heroes" try to cheer a cow up by taking him to a Laughter House (at least that's what the sign said... granted, they later realized that the sign is missing an "S")
Here’s one where Garfield dies and ends up at the infamous "Pet Sematary".
Annnnd The Tooth Fairy visits a kid who's parents are physically fighting downstairs
(they can hear them loudly fighting), one of the parents gets shot, the tooth fairy intervenes, and someone else gets shot. But, at least the kid is rewarded with some change for his troubles.
If any of those make you laugh, then you'll like M.O.D.O.K.
If any of those scenarios horrify you, then congrats, you're a well-adjusted person.
My only complaint about the show is that like "Robot Chicken", there are hits and misses with the comedy. Some episodes have a lot of misses in a row. And sometimes, it's just flat out weird.
But, I grew up on twisted humor and absurd scenarios, so it's right up my alley.
Grade: B
Perhaps turning troubled characters into instruments of laughter will be the new trend.
I recently learned of this guy "Six Pack"
( powers include drinking too much and peeing himself). I've been reading about him. He’s under DC Comics, but man, it’d be cool if Marvel had a character like him (wouldn’t it? - no??). Marvel and DC bite off of each other all of the time. Just call him “BoozeHound” or something.
I'm thinking Jack Black. I've been wanting to see him in the MCU, fighting along side the big guns for a while now.
Picture it:
Captain America, The Wakanda Ladies, Kamala Khan, Shang Chi... they’re gonna need a token (and of course cartoonish) white guy. BOOM! Jack Black! “Boozehound”!
Let's get on that.
DAILY SKETCH: Just finished watching MODOK on Hulu it was really friggin good! I dug it but I am such a Marvel Fan that it’s easy for me to get into and get the inside jokes and all that but it had some heart and @pattonoswalt bought it! Will give a full review on the podcast later this week! #modok #hulu #modokhulu #mentalorganismdesignedonlyforkilling #pattonoswalt #lollipop #marvel #dailysketch #sketch (at The Goblins Heist) https://www.instagram.com/p/CPRkZdkhNFE/?utm_medium=tumblr
