#4: ‘The modulus of rupture’
10.06.2015
Also known as flexural strength, the modulus of rupture of a material would be the same as the tensile strength if the material were homogeneous; however, most materials have defects in them that concentrate the stresses locally, effectively causing a localized weakness. It’s therefore common for flexural strengths to be higher than tensile strengths for the same material.
