MO 2.01 "Oso Palestino (the Palestinian Bear)"
The world will always try to tear us down. And when they do, we smile. Because we know who we are.
Mo (2022 - ) S02E08 “A Call from God”
Mo’s search for asylum continues in Season 2.
Mo Season 1 won hearts as it introduced viewers to Mo Najjar (co-creator and executive producer Mo Amer), a Palestinian refugee desperately trying to keep his life — and family — together in Houston, as he attempts to secure asylum. The heartfelt comedy series, inspired by Amer’s own life, is a rare show that mines the difficulties of interfaith relationships and immigration struggles alongside the comedy of finicky cat owners. Luckily for fans who fell in love with Mo’s complicated world, it’s about to return. Mo has been renewed for a second season, and it’ll arrive on Jan. 30, 2025.

Mo (prods. Mohammed Amer & Ramy Youssef).
Netflix’s family-based Palestinian-American comedy series inspired by Amer’s real-life experiences as a refugee seeking asylum in Houston after fleeing the first Gulf War in Kuwait is full of hustle. Featuring many colourful characters, the show finds humour in specific cultural details about Muslim and Arab life in Texas and the experience of desperation after reliving past trauma over and over again.
Being “stateless” and belonging nowhere reverberates within the series with rich explorations of the complexities of Islam and the Palestinian diaspora in today’s world. It’s a very fun show based squarely on family with more than a few dramatic thrills to its episodic unfolding.
Black Adam (2022) dir. Jaume Collet-Serra
This is surprisingly entertaining to me. The villain is pretty meh. Adam being able to speak English, when all along he had only known his own language, is a plot hole. And Atom Smasher and Cyclone could have been easily cut out without affecting the plot. But I liked the setting and character arcs. Even the structure veered (a little) off formula to me.
Black Adam is a 2022 American superhero film. It is a spin-off from Shazam! (2019) and the eleventh film in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). It is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, written by Adam Sztykiel, Rory Haines, and Sohrab Noshirvani and produced by Johnson. It stars Dwayne Johnson, with Aldis Hodge, Noah Centineo, Sarah Shahi, Marwan Kenzari, Quintessa Swindell, Mohammed Amer, Bodhi Sabongui, and Pierce Brosnan.
