the upper side of his face has burn scars all over
wears masks to hide the scars, cat one is the one he wears most often
has a cat mask, a deer mask and an owl mask, completely black and bare
Character
23 years old
reaaaal powerful magic
rich boi
irish/french descent, irish accent
speaks fluent gaelic and french
can play the piano AND the violin
a bookworm, quite serious
pyrophobia
“hey, nice mask!” “it’s a prosthetic.” “...oh.”
(it’s not that bad really, he’s just really self-conscious about it)
his mask is a comfort to him. if someone tries to touch it he’ll shy away, if someone takes it off he’ll lose his shit
he was cooped up his whole life and almost never went out, so his social life/skills are nonexistent
a hermit and a huge nerd
disaster gay
"hOw do i tALK TO PEOPLE HELP-”
has three cats he rescued himself: Spades, Jasper and Poppy
has a huge greenhouse linked to the main building of his mansion
likes gardening a lot, whether it’s for his craft, for cooking or just because he likes seeing plants flourish
Backstory (pre-canon)
he was born with cat eyes, the physical representation of his extremely potent magic
parents were freaked out, and hid him away during his whole childhood
his dad basically ignored him, and his mom had this whole act going on, she was afraid of him and his powers but hid it under fake motherly love
“you know I love you, right? i would do anything for you.” “really? then why can’t I go outside?” “you’re so cute, I don’t want other people to see you...”
had no control over his powers as a baby, would wreak havoc around him
growing up, his emotions would trigger his powers. it’s better now, but extreme anger or distress still makes him lose control
he burned his face when he lost control once, hence the scars and the pyrophobia
now he’s convinced he’s a hazard to everyone
he’s not afraid to leave the property because he fears the outside world, he’s afraid because he thinks he’ll hurt people
his parents are famous fashion designers, both come from aristocratic families
they’re super rich and travel the world and send him a ridiculous amount of money every month
they say it’s for work but the real reason is that they couldn’t deal with having a “freak” as a son but couldn’t abandon him without getting bad PR
so instead they just took their distance and left him to live in a big-ass mansion by himself as soon as he was old enough (10 years old)
they dont really care what he does. last time they called him was when he was 13
last time they sent him a birthday card was when he was 18
since he was basically ignored his whole life by his dad before they both left him in the mansion alone, the only steady adult and source of human interaction in his life was his MANY tutors and... Henrik, the family doctor
he's one of the reasons why marv acts gruff and cold, he picked it up from the doc
since he has money and home, he doesn’t need a job, so he just stays cooped up in the property and almost never leaves, he orders his food and groceries to be delivered to him
he tries to use his natural magic as little as possible, (hello trauma my old friend) so he still has flimsy control over it
instead he dabbles into wicca and the occult to do stuff
BUT ONE DAY
the money stops coming
he tries to call his parents to ask what’s going on, but the number they gave him long ago is dead
looks like they finally got tired and went dark on him
he won’t be homeless since the mansion isn’t a rent, but he still gotta pay for food and water and electricity and shit
so he’s at a loss at what to do
that’s when Jackie first crashes into his life...
@tabbynerdicat @lilakennedy thought you guys might like him~
@immabethehero @bupine
Cecil gave the door a tentative push; it was unlocked, to his surprise. He stepped into the darkened room and grimaced at the musty smell -though after being closed for so long, the doctor should have expected as such. His eyes glided over piles of dusty books, half-emptied takeout boxes and unwashed clothes thrown around haphazardly before settling on the faint outline of a human body curled up in a bed. He pursed his lips and took another step forward. “Mars-”
“Go away.”
The voice was frail, frailer than Cecil ever remembered it being. It was straining under weeks of underuse, weak and gravelly. He didn’t let that deter him. “Mars, you cannot keep this up. It’s been weeks.”
“M’fine. Go away.”
“You are most certainly not fine, and I’m not leaving until you let me help you.”
The ruffling of fabric. A beat. “...I don’t need help. I need to be alone. Can you respect that?” Mars croaked out, a harsh edge creeping into his apathetic tone.
Cecil shook his head, impatience written all over his face. “You are in no condition to assess whether you need help or not! Gottverdammt, how long has it been since the last time you slept? Or ate?”
He raised his hand, as if to intercept an expected remark. “Und I don’t mean those dreaded protein bars or energy drinks, I mean a proper meal. Do you have any idea what it’s like to watch you waste away like this?”
“What if I want to?”
Cecil stopped, heart skipping a beat; Mars had rolled on his other side and was now facing him, his yellow, slitted eyes glowing dimly in the darkness. Henrik could faintly make out the pink, uneven surface of his facial scars. Uncovered.
He wasn’t wearing his glasses. Or his mask. The doctor’s head spun; Mars always wore his mask. If he hadn’t even bothered to put it on, if he hadn’t even had the energy to do something that was like breathing to him… then the situation was even worse than he had imagined.
“What if this is what I want? What of it?” the young man continued.
“You cannot possibly be serious.”
Mars’ outline rose up on the bed. “That what you think?” he hissed, eyes glowing brighter in his agitation. “You’re probably right. The doc always knows best, right? Because you of all people would know what’s best for me, right?”
The German’s brow furrowed; he didn’t like where this conversation was heading. “This isn’t about me.”
Mars blinked, the yellow orbs disappearing for less than a second. Then he started laughing.
It was bitter, devoid of any mirth. It rose in pitch and volume until the younger man was howling, body seizing up and spasming under the eyes of an increasingly disturbed Cecil.
“Oh, isn’t it now?” Mars managed to utter, still wracked with manic chuckles. “Don’t give me that horseshit. Everything’s always about you, what you want, what you don’t want. Don’t expect me to believe you’re starting to care now.”
“Do you even hear yourself? I have been looking after you for more than fifteen years, you duncauf! How could you possibly think-”
“Shut up!”
Cecil choked on his own words, as he could no longer breathe. As soon as Mars had screamed, the broken words cutting right at Cecil’s very soul, it was like a ball of lead had lodged itself in his throat. He stared at the other, panic rising in his chest; Mars was getting up, yellow eyes boring into him, their intensity lighting up the usually hidden features. They were twisted in a sneer. “You don’t. Get to tell me. How I fucking feel.”
The taller man gestured angrily, pacing back and forth in front of the bed. “You don’t get to come here, acting all high and mighty, and tell me how to deal with my problems! Wanna know why?”
Cecil went stiff. He knew what was coming. He could feel it, along with an increasing pressure on his chest and the faint tingle of magic in the air. After years and years of dreaded silence, this was the moment where his failures finally caught up to him.
Mars approached him, still looming over him despite his hunched over posture. His footing was unsteady, his balance off, but he moved with purpose, animated by feverish rage. He stopped abruptly, his face just a few inches away from the older man’s. His tired, bloodshot eyes peered into grey, wide ones.
“You’re not my fucking father.”
Cecil’s blood ran cold. Mars pulled back, straightening up to glare down at him. “You’ve made that very clear. Remember?”
The doctor screwed his eyes shut, grimacing in pain. He still couldn’t breathe. Unwanted memories rose to the surface, regret and anguish filling his mouth with ash.
“Did you ever even care about me at all?” Mars continued, relentless. “Or were you just sticking around because you felt sorry for me?”
Cecil strained against whatever was blocking his airways. “That’s,” he managed to wheeze, “That’s not-”
“Well guess what? I don’t want your pity.” the young man cut him off. His hands were now clenched at his sides, purple streaks of magic slowly coming to life around his arms. The room was now lit up like a nightclub, and the German could now see Mars’s lanky form in its entirety.
He looked even thinner than usual, dressed in a dark green hoodie and black pajama bottoms. His cheeks were hollow, his long brown hair greasy and tangled, his eyes rimmed in red and black, making the scarring around them stand out even more. Even in his anger, he was swaying, trembling, struggling to keep himself upright, probably from the exhaustion and malnourishment.
Still, he kept boring holes into Cecil’s skull. “I don’t want it! Even after that day, a part of me thought you cared. Well, big fucking news, my real father never gave a shit about me, the freak he wished was never born. So why would you?”
He let out a broken sound, not quite a laugh, not quite a sob. Something that screamed despair. “I was stupid. So stupid. I t-thought you- and you just- f-fucking walked away…”
Darkness was starting to creep in Henrik’s vision. His throat and lungs burned. His world was spinning. Air, he needed air-
“I had nothing!” Mars’ voice kept hammering, growing more and more frantic with each sentence, cracking under the strain. “Nobody to trust. Nobody to talk to. Nobody that cared. I only had you, Doc, fuck- and you left. Just like they did. And when you came back, it was like nothing had happened at all. I fucking died that day, you hear me?! I've been dead for years, stuck in this- golden cage! Do you know how fucking close I got to- Doc?”
Cecil could no longer see. His ears were ringing, drowning out the other’s voice. He couldn’t remember when he had fallen to his knees, or when he has started to claw at his throat.
“Doc? What are you- oh. Oh god. Oh god, no, please no, not again, not again no no no no no why is it not stopping, pourquoi ?! Arrête ! Pars pas putain, me laisse pas seul-”
He was lying on his side, writhing, desperately trying to draw in air. He could feel his blind eyes rolling back into his skull, his consciousness fading… His limbs felt so heavy, so very very heavy...
And then, just like that, it was over.
The pressure on his body disappeared and his trachea opened up. Cecil gasped loudly, gulping down precious oxygen like a drowning man as he rolled over on the carpet and got on his knees, coughing and wheezing all the while. His sight returned, blurry and spotty, and after a few seconds of coming back to himself, Cecil looked up.
Mars was staring down at him, his expression frozen in horror. Bright golden eyes widened in shock, mouth gaping silently, he looked like he’d just witnessed someone die. The fierce violet glow surrounding him only added to his picturesque terror.
Cecil tried to speak, but all that came out what a pained groan. He cleared his aching throat and opened his mouth again, to say what, he wasn’t sure-
Mars didn’t give him the chance.
“LEAVE ME ALONE!” he shrieked, and then Cecil was thrown backwards by an unseen force, soaring through the open doorway with a startled cry. After a few dizzying seconds, his impromptu flight was interrupted by his back colliding violently with a wall.
His neck snapped backwards, the back of his head meeting the hard surface with a dull bang. Pain exploded across his skull, and then nothing.
