Waterfalls / cascades of Bohinj - Slovenia The most famous is Waterfal Savica , near you can see waterfals from Komarča ( after rain. ) A waterfal is by spring of river Bistrica too. The waterfals of Ribnica and Mostnica are interesting too. More easterly is the waterfal Grmečica and waterfals in Soteska.

Love on Butcher’s Bridge. What do you do when you are in love? Simple. Etch your names onto padlocks, lock then up on a bridge, and throw away the keys. Well, not any bridge. The Butcher's Bridge in Ljubljana is not the most romantic spots in the city. It's name doesn't help either. However, that hasn't stopped lovers, young and old, from locking up their souls together all along the steel wire railings. The bridge itself is quite a recent addition, having been built in 2010. Spanning across the Ljubljanica river, it connects the Central market with the Petkovsek Embankment. It was built more as an art installation than anything else, and features glass panels near the edges, along with some fascinating, if slightly grotesque, sculptures by Jakov Brdar. And if, at some point of time, you have a change of heart, good luck trying to find that key. Life can sometimes turn things on their head. Shoes on a wire. There is something charming about visiting a small city. You don't have to while away too much time figuring things out. It gives you ample time to see most of the sights and sounds, while also allowing for plenty of hours to spend at a watering hole that has taken your fancy. Ljubljana comes to mind. As the capital of Slovenia, it packs in quite a lot for its size. And a walk through the Old Town only reinforces that. On one of those days when I was, am sure, looking for a cosy watering hole along Trubajeva cesta, I came upon a sight unlike anything I have ever seen before - shoes strung onto wires and hanging there, for all to see. I don't think the local Municipality saw the funny side to it, and promptly had them removed a few years ago. But if the shoes want to hang, then hang they will. Turns out, they were back there again, strung on the wire, a few days later. While I am not absolutely sure as to the origin of this custom - apparently there are 18 different versions to mull over, what most seem to agree upon is that it is strung when one has passed an important milestone (no, finding a watering hole doesn't count). How true that is, I don't know. But what I do know is that it makes for a fascinating photo-op, complete with the Ljubljana Castle making for a fabulous backdrop. Have you been to Ljubljana?
