😈 Is there anything you enjoy doing that you think your readers hate?

I know for a fact that some people really hate me writing 'weak women' or whatever. I guess especially in the BG3/Astarion circles, a lot expect Tav/Durge to be this... girl boss or whatever, but I'm at a stage where I don't really care much for writing and exploring such characters. I am much more interested in diving deeper into complicated and messy characters, especially women.

And maybe in a way it's a bit of a... counter to the whole 'this is a plot hole/this character is acting illogically, people wouldn't do that!' mindset that has been pervading fiction (it's more common in movies thanks to a certain genre of youtube videos lol). Because... people ARE messy. We contradict ourselves more often than we expect. And it's interesting to explore!

I am glad, however, that the previous sentiment is not very common and that most of my readers appreciate the way I write my characters, especially Mal. I feel like that's actually part of her charm. That she's not some sort of a vessel to encapsulate an idea, a vibe, or a projection. But that she feels real, that she has her strong moments as well as weak ones.

👖 Are you a planner, plantser, or pantser? Is it consistent?

For the longest time I wrote mostly based on a feeling or a vibe that absolutely possessed me to tell a story. Never really planned anything ever as I felt that my best writing was done in that state, where a scene would just.. be everything I can think of and I HAD to write it.

Nowadays, I still mostly write like that, but I am really trying my best to get better at committing myself to a full, long-form story. It's still really hard, especially considering all my mental struggles, but I am trying really hard. And VENA CAVA is my current project to sort of.. see if I can plan a story ahead and write it!

I wasn't sure if this meant one of my fics or in general, oops.

But as far as my stuff goes, idk, I often end up going back and rereading my own fics just to experience them again. To feel the feelings, to remember what it was like to write those lines. I do reread VENA CAVA a lot lmao.

As far as other people's fics... unfortunately, if I struggle to write, then I struggle even harder to read. But I do often return to both fics that @sorceresssundries wrote for me: Lilac and Gold & Every Shade of Sunlight. Not only because Jourdane's writing evokes that nostalgic love for language and writing that I had before and during uni, but also because they are such warm and cozy stories. I don't write a lot of comforting scenes, so it's always nice to see my beloved blorbos experiencing some actual care.

🦋 tell us about your current wip

oh, i have multiple!! i'm mostly focused on editing and adding to the prologue of vena cava. it is a post-bg3 AU story where my main character, mal, is turned into a vampire spawn. here's a little passage from it, if you want a quick peek:

besides that, i'm working on two 'nightmares' texts that go over maleane's and astarion's fears. mal's side is a brand new piece of writing while for astarion's i want to extend a previous text i've written.

and then i have a 'dark fic' that's currently on the back burner because writing it simply made me so incredibly sad, that i had to take a break. but it's definitely something i'd like to come back to eventually. here's a little excerpt:

i feel like these change by hour and depend a lot on my mood. i usually try to follow whatever state or emotion i'm experiencing and channel it into writing. at the moment it's probably maleane's nightmare!

considering that it usually takes me at least two months to finish writing something substantial, i am SO incredibly proud of myself that i managed to finish RUIN in a week!!!
