Anyone know what the deal is with this Mojofire thing? The post I saw looked super shady and I didn't want to spread that shit, so I'm asking here.

Both Mojofire and Pillowfort released updates in the last few weeks.

Mojofire’s talks a bit about what kind of post-types they’ll have (like Tumblr’s Text, Photo, Quote, Link, Chat, Audio, and Video), why they’re dropping the ‘Quote’-type post, and having ‘Chat’ default-off. They also have links to their “reserve your tumblr name” option, their planning discord, their indigogo, and their newsletter.

The “reserve your tumblr name” requires you to give them the e-mail you use on tumblr, and to give them read and write access to your tumblr to confirm that name. The screen says:

In order to claim the same identity you had on Tumblr, we need to verify your account details. Once you click the button below, you will be asked to log into your Tumblr account and grant us read and write permissions.

MojoFire will only read your username details. We will never write to your account. Tumblr unfortunately does not allow us to request only read permissions.

I believe they are being sincere. However, this is a way nefarious software gets into your tumblr account, so be prepared to change your password, and to revoke permissions, quickly. Information on how to do that can be found here. (Link is to a zendesk article).

Mojofire Update

For those interested:

New micro-blogging community Mojofire are now allowing signups and everyone gets the chance to register and claim their old Tumblr username :)

Hey friends and fam! There‘s a new microblogging service launching next year and they just started a funding campaign!

I‘m not here to talk anybody into supporting or funding them, and I’m in no way affiliated with them, but I‘d say it looks quite promising and maybe worth a shot?
