Hi, I was wondering about UT locket of Molly G. If UT deserted 70 years ago (circa 1818), maybe it was because of Molly (UT said he was seduced by human lives). He met her on the job or something and became infatuated. Maybe he met her shortly before her death in 1837, but in this short time, she became important to him. His 1st escape attempt failed and he was captured, then escaped again wounded (scars), met her and she help him treat his wounds.
So, 70 years ago would be 1819. The year both Queen Victoria and Prince Albert were born. Itās also the year Sir Walter Scott initially published Ivanhoe, which includes an estranged father named Cedric of Rotherwood⦠who uses the help of Robin of Locksley (Robin Hood) and his Merry Men to free his own son from imprisonment. And he and his son end up making amends. But I digress (only slightly).
Then Molly/Mally B. dies December 10, 1837. (I remember that easily because itās exactly 140 years before my birthday š„³.) Note: 1837 is also the year that Victoria ascended to the throne, even though the coronation didnāt take place until the following year.
Just 50 yrs back would be 1839. However, he is a bit vague on when exactly he snuck out of the reaper organization. Could have been a year or so before that. Doesnāt he say something like āat least half a centuryā?
There are two possibilities here:
He fails to destroy the HQ and gets captured but then sneaks out relatively soon afterwards.
He fails to destroy the HQ and gets captured⦠and doesnāt manage to sneak out until roughly 20 years later.
If he got out of there before Molly/Mally died, then they might have become a couple⦠depending on her age, but I think she was an adult. That would be one possible reason for her becoming the first person to be represented by a hair locket.
There is also something else to discuss, regarding his attempt to destroy the HQ: When was he injured/scarred? Was it then, back around 1819? I currently see these two major contenders for how he got his scars:
When he tried to destroy the HQ around 1819, he was thwarted and/or punished with either death scythes or some sort of special weapon we have yet to see. Or have we seen it already?!? (Iām looking š at John Brown and his whip.)
He was relatively unscathed from that failed attempt, but he was forced to return to work, and on December 10, 1837, heās come to collect the soul of a woman named Molly/Mally B. But her will to live fights back (much like Thomasās will to live when William tries to collect his soul in āThe Story of Will the Reaperā). He might have been working alone or he might have had a partner that wasnāt able to help him (at least not right away). And the scars came from this attack. But he finally manages to collect her soul⦠or maybe another reaper finally comes to his rescue⦠and then he decides sheās the last one he will ever (officially) collect. He gets rid of his reaper glasses (but keeps his death scythe), collects some of her hair, and has his first mourning locket made as a commemorative token of her death⦠his last collection for the reaper organization.
I keep going back and forth between the two because I like both scenarios. The HQ scenario because it would help show how horrid the reaper organization (and their superiors) might really be. The soul collection scenario because of something Othello says about 136649⦠that he easily collected souls from any assignment and was always on schedule. If it turns out to be a situation where he failed to collect easily or fell behind schedule, he might have seen that as a final sign he needed out of the reaper organization and the reaper realm. Right away.
Either way, we are talking about a highly dramatic and emotional situation.
