JUNE 1984:       Billy Hargrove meets the Thrashers outside the diner as they waited for Aleksander and Vladimir to finish their shifts. After talking to him for a bit about cars and how he has these new parts that he can’t use, Mary Jane suggests the idea of letting Billy join them at The Cliff, after all he was new to the small town and could use the sight seeing, and maybe a set of friends of all went well. The group agrees, but only if he can keep up with them as they drove. He was able to catch up and meet them up at The Cliff, which resulted in them giving him a warm welcome, Vinny slapped a beer in his hand, Aleksander blasted rock from the El Camino, and history was made.

Most fathers bond with you over things like baseball, music, teaching you HOW to drive  ——  no, not my old Man .  Instead he cracked a beer open during summer , took a    l o n g   swig before OFFERING me a beer of my own.  It didn’t occur to me why he had suddenly grown a heart until the pear shaped ass of Mrs. Wheeler passed us  (paying us no attention), jogging on her way back to her house when it clicked . Some fathers bond over football,  cars, and teaching you how to talk to girls  ——  no, not my old Man . He wanted to bond over Hawkin’s resident Milf.

There he was, the asshole his friends had told him about. Apparently he was the older brother of the new girl at school who Will hardly had the opportunity to speak with. He certainly gave off a douchebag vibe with his demeanour and Will tried his best to keep his distance.
