Man, just knowing that Bill dedicated the rest of his life to finding Keiko even after he found the letter she sent Lee breaks my heart, he deserved so much better. I like how this is framed as a parallel to that scene as well. Both she and Bill struggled to properly express themselves to the people they loved, so writing letters was how they could be honest. They were such a good couple, I think Bill spoke to the scientist side of Keiko, while Lee spoke to her desires as a woman if that makes sense. She loved both for different reasons and needed both.

My cope is that since they’re exploring time travel so heavily, we might somehow get an asspull and Bill brought back along with Hiroshi? Maybe young Lee takes over for older Lee too?

Monarch season 2 ✅ 8.5/10

Much better than season 1 in pretty much every way. Last season, I HATED everything about Kentaro and Cate and found the drama with May to be such a chore to sit through. This season’s focus on the family drama, Keiko reckoning with Bill’s death, Lee dealing with his own regrets and May’s mind control experiment subplot were so good. Kentaro’s internal struggle of choosing between his commitment to his sister and grandmother vs working with Isabel was also good too and I’m excited to see more of that in season 3.

We got a perfect balance of Kaiju and Axis Mundi lore, action and character development. The characters are still messy and all over the place at times, but that’s how people are irl too. The message of the series continues to be humans are the real monsters and we got plenty examples of just how true that is. The season isn’t without its flaws, mainly how they handled Hiroshi, yes I’m petty, but for the most part I thoroughly enjoyed every episode unlike season 1 which had some real stinkers where I literally fell asleep. Production values also were way better this time around too with the last couple episodes looking as good as the movies imo.

I’m so hype after that finale and can’t wait to see what they do in season 3. There’s a lot of gaps in the timeline between this season and the latest monsterverse film, so there’s a ton of different directions they can go in.
