Who’s Shani?
Mona Shani is a photographer, director, and model based in Berlin. Currently, she is studying Cross Media at the SAE Institute Berlin.
Being creative isn’t something strange to her. She discovered her artistic side at a young age, and in the last few years, she decided to make it her main focus, and start a career dedicated to visual media.
This page will be followed through her eyes and aesthetic, to show the behind the scenes of the SAE campus in Berlin and her personal work. We hope you enjoy the ride! Photo: Cedrik Wette
Shot on 35mm
A little recap from last week. We had some interesting visitors from a radio station! Radio Jam FM came to our campus to check out the SAE Institute, and interviewed our managers, students and supervisors.
Before we even started with the shoot, we of course did some Coronatest to make sure everyone is safe to take the mask off. Cuz we all know how annoying it is, doing an interview with the mask on. But thankfully everyone was safe and healthy and we could get started.
We showed the guys the campus, project rooms and of course our cool equipment. Some students showed their personal or uni work and talked about the importance of networking, inspiration, and how we stay active and connected during the pandemic.
The last shoot lasted easily the whole day, and it was quite fun to have a small production going on during these times. And with the masks off? It almost felt nostalgic. As crazy as it sounds, it was so relaxing having conversations with people without the mask on. The vibe was easily chilled out and everyone was motivated.
Now, I don't wanna spoil the whole cool project for you, but we all now have to wait til end of January to see the results, and all the things we talked about! Can't wait to see the results.
Stay tuned folks! ✌🏽📻
Behind the Scenes Music Video Shoot
End of November I was approached by Director and Head of the film department Ehsan Haghighat to join him on his music video shoot for Almas Farahi. Without hesitation I knew I wanted to join him on this project. Knowing him only as the film lecturer, I was quite curious to see him work as a director. The music video was shot in the popular WOW! Gallery Berlin. What makes this place so interesting is, that it has all kinds of sections with different setups. In other words, there is no need for set design or setting up the props since everything is just ready there. The whole shoot required only one day to shoot. Well, if everything is already set up then the whole shoot would take only couple of hours right? I thought that too, but nope. Even with a whole ready set-up, it still takes dedication and attention to detail to get the image right. It does saves some time thought, since there’s no need for an extra team to set everything up. It was quite an experience shooting in that location and I enjoyed watching our head of film department being a director. While I took many photos I asked all kinds of question that came to my mind. Every time you think you know a lot, there will always some things that will leave you curious. Especially when you kind of more in the “background” and watch the team work. It gives you a whole different perspective, and actually gives you the opportunity to wonder and actually process the whole thing. Gaining experience do not happen by just being in the “front” as a director or producer, but also being quietly in the background and take the time to observe everything around you. All photos taken by me. Shot on Sony Alpha 6000.
Better late than ever.... SHANI x SAEART wishes you a happy Christmas and a happy new year! We hope that you were able to celebrate xmas safe and sound with your family and loved ones! Let's look forward to new challenges and opportunities! ✨🎁❤️🎅🏼🎄🦌🤶🏼
This Filmsuit has been literally my second home. I spend so many hours working in here. When I'm graduating, I'll definitely have separation anxiety with this room.
I like to think, we're still pretty lucky at SAE Berlin for having the campus open besides the Corona restrictions. It's been quite a challenge to find different locations to work and shoot, but the sae crew works hard to make things happen at the campus. It does feel good to get out of home, and have a different work environment. It gives you a chance to socialize with people, since that has been little bit of a challenge too.
Also, I'm gonna start a petition for SAE Berlin to rename this room after me when I'm graduating. They should name it to "The Shani-Filmsuit". Hehehe
SAE Berlin and SAE Institute Hamburg hosted the Imsta Festa 2020 together in cooperation with The Producers Network. A community for music producers and engineers. Some of the guests included Miksu, Jan Van Dertoon, and Axel Reinemer of JRS Recording Studio Berlin. The online event was hosted by Clemens Matznick. Shout out to the SAE Berlin Crew for making this happen!
One of the many ways to get a smooth camera moving shot. Students are practicing in the SAE Institute Berlin Green Screen Room.
