Hubert would say this was a horrible idea, she knew. Crumpling the letter in her fist, she had not responded to his warning at first. She agreed with him. Edelgard had no ties to Byleth, she had been the professor of a different house who involved herself with all her students too closely.
Yet...
“I owe the professor this much, at least.”
When she had said that, Hubert didn’t have room to argue. He could disobey her order if he deemed it necessary, which was why she had to have him occupied while she walked out of the encampment, a dagger concealed underneath her armor. It was just for self-defense in case this meeting went awry.
Emperor Edelgard was making a decision out of sentimentality. The life debt she owed Byleth, she hoped one day she could repay it. But if Byleth chose to collect on that now, she could probably not fulfill it just yet.
Entering the isolated clearing, Edelgard sighed. She remained alert, straining her ears for any signs of the former mercenary to arrive.
