Mondrian-inspired artwork using shades of purple and green which are associated with the asexual and aromantic pride flags. The none representing no attraction - be it sexual, romantic, or both. A lot of the squares are meant to be larger and take up a lot of the page. This is meant to imply the weight that we as aces/aros/acearos have on us. Because we live in a time and society where romance and s-x is so overpowering and “important” that not having one or either of those attractions present must be wrong. And because of that we feel shame. And a lot of us aren’t proud to be aspecs or even want to admit that we are. Because how can we be happy without someone in some capacity?

We don’t all have to be proud of being aspec. It’s ok if we have a complicated relationship with our orientation(s). But what’s not ok is having the shame or guilt pushed on us because we’re not “normal”. But this doesn’t have to be a weight. We can look at our relationship with our orientation complexly if we want to. We don’t have to totally be comfortable with it. We just have to accept that this is a part of us - albeit for some a bigger part than others - and be prepared to show it to people. Make them see that we exist and we’re not “wrong”. It may be the end of Pride Month now, but it’s still 20NoneTeen. So let’s celebrate and get through the rest of it together.

Mondrian But Gay

Inspired by the square designs Mondrian created. While I kept the thinness/heaviness of each square varying similarly to his, instead of using primary colors (red/blue/yellow) as well as black and white I stuck with Gay Pride colors, hence the title. The separate pink square symbolizes how pink was once a part of that flag as well.The placement of the colors as well as what angle one looks at the drawing affects how one sees it. For example having bigger squares of heavier (re: darker) colors at the bottom with fewer smaller squares might imply the feeling of being dragged down, how your eye might go from the warmness of the top left to a darker bottom right. Meanwhile having warmer (re: lighter) colors at the top, especially outnumbering the darker colors, could be showing a light rising from the darkness. This may also be interpreted as gays, as well as the LGBTQIAP+ community as a whole, having been held back and looked down on for so long but now are living in a time where it’s more open, accepted, and seen as a norm. In other words that we have and will continue to rise above the darkness; and that if we are in a better place now compared to say, 20-30 years ago, then it can only continue getting better and brighter from here.

Also Homondrian didn’t sound right and Mondrian But Gay is a lot funner to say, at least in my opinion. 😆
