"You guys are doin' great!"
It was a normal Thursday afternoon and practice had just finished for John and the rest of the small marching band. Although most of the students thought the whole idea of marching band was useless and nerdy they never left during half time performances nor did they ever forget to vote on the theme of the show. This years theme was 90's rock, the music was a little difficult and some of the sets were hard to do but, as John had said, the band was great!
John Smith, a junior with a dream of becoming a band director himself, was this years drum major. It was his job to conduct the band during performances and help the other students when a teacher couldn't. He was so excited for this Friday's performance that he almost fell off the podium during a run through, everything had be perfect. The turns, the marching, the timing, everything!
"Remember to be in the band room no later than 6 o'clock tomorrow to get dressed," he yelled as everyone began to run off the field, ready to get home and rest. "Everyone's gonna go crazy when we march on!" he began to head off as well. As he left the practice field, head down with a big smile, he ran into another group of students who had just finish their practice as well. He'd forgotten that most teams get out the same time they do.
He looked up a bit scared. Since the students didn't like most of the band, except for on Friday nights of course, they're liked to push them around. Some lucky students could take them, like the sousaphone players, but John was a scrawny kid. He only had a small amount of arms muscles from marching with his bass clarinet last year, any student could probably beat him to the ground.
"Sorry, my fault. Was't watchin'." his words came flowing out quickly.
