Prologue
"What's taking him so long?" You groaned, a frown making its way on your lips as you tapped your F/c slippers on the dry pavement in front of your house.
"Seriously, if he doesn't arrive here in two minutes, I'm going to leave him a-" You stopped as you heard a very familiar and loud voice.
"Heeeeeeeyyy!!"
You rolled your eyes and faced your childhood friend, Satori. You know, the kind of friend you'd never see yourself making today, but it just kind of works out because you've known each other for so long?
"Haaahhh...haaahhh..." he huffed, trying to catch his breath. "I overslept again, but I caught you this time!"
You crossed your arms, giving him a disapproving look. "Maybe, but only because I decided to stop and wait for you," you countered.
"Eeehhhhh, you say that like you were thinking about ignoring me! That's mean, Y/N!" he pouted.
"Well, if people stare at you for acting weird then I don't want them to think we're-" You stopped, your eyes narrowing. A churning feeling on your stomach.
Why does this feel like you've heard this line before? Is this some kind of deja vu? And what were you supposed to say? '-we're a couple or something'. Since when did that bother you?
Why are you acting so differently?
"You okay?"
You flinched when you felt a hand on your shoulder, the feeling bringing you back to reality. You turned to Satori with wide eyes. "I-uh, yeah, I'm fine."
He gave you a worried look, his lips stretched into a thin line. "You sure? You kind of spaced out for a few seconds there."
You let out a nervous laugh, avoiding your eyes from his gaze. "Yeah, I'm really fine."
"Are you really, really-"
You cutted him off. "Satori, yes. I'm fine."
He sighed, his eyes showing that he doesn't believe your statement but he lets it go. "Fine. Fine. But you did wait for me, after all."
Here goes that churning feeling in your stomach again. Why does this things seemed so familiar?
"I guess you don't have it in you to be mean even if you want to," he teased, trying to lighten up the mood.
You rolled your eyes once again. "Whatever you say, Satori."
Thus, the journey towards school started. While walking, Satori suddenly popped up a question.
"By the way, Y/N... have you decided on a club to join yet?"
Huh?
Suddenly, a weak buzzing sound filled your ears, making you stop. Satori glanced at you once again, the worried look on his face reappearing.
"Did you hear that?" you asked.
Satori's eyes narrowed. "Hear what?"
"That strange buzzing sound," you explained, trying your best to stay calm at a clearly not normal situation.
Your friend gave you a confused look. "I don't hear anything."
"But I swear-" The buzzing stopped. "N-nevermind."
"You sure you're okay? You've been acting strange this morning. Do you need-"
"I'm fine, Satori. Just continue what you were saying earlier."
"Oh, right. Since you told me last time that you would be joining a club, I decided to let you see my club first!" He cheered.
"You have a club?"
He nodded, a spark on his eyes. "Yup! It's the Literature Club and I'm the vice president. I'm so-"
You were unable to hear the next words he stated as the buzzing came back with a much more louder sound.

Chapter 1:
"Y̶̰̰̘͙̜̍̃͠/̸̧̱̓̐N̷̨̲͐."
He called out your name but the buzzing was too loud for you to hear him.
"A̴͓̪̹̖̓͋͌r̶̠̠͗̅̒ė̵̲̲̣̋̎̈́́ ̶̩̺̑̔̋̾̈́ẏ̴͔͉̬̤̳͂͒o̸̼̝͕̹͊ủ̶̧͆̓ ̴̞̓̾̀̎̆ō̸̭̠̳̾̐̿ķ̸̗͓̤͌̈́͜a̴͒͗̈́̐͜ý̶̖̼͋͠?̸͔̙͌̆͂̄"
It was just a game. Everything was just a game. You weren't supposed to be here. Why is this happening? Your head throbbed in pain, you hands were shaking; you were hyperventilating.
You let out a shaky breath, trying to catch the most rational thoughts in your head. You felt arms wrapped around you as the strenght left your knees. You grasped the fabric of Satori's vest.
"Ȁ̸̬̉r̷̪̊e̷̙͐̑ ̸̢́͌y̵̭̹͒o̵̥͝ṷ̶͈̉-̸̡̑̇"
Is this what Monika felt when she had her own epiphany?
You felt Satori running his fingers through your h/c hair, tightening his embrace more. "Everything's going to be okay," he softly whispered on your ear.
A few minutes passed by, your breathing finally returned back to normal, the jumbled thoughts in your mind slowly connecting into places regarding all the sequence that happened to you this morning.
"Let's go home," he stated, looking at you with teary eyes as he gently caressed your cheek.
He's worried about you and you can clearly see that on his actions and his words. Everything still seemed unclear to you, thousands of questions continued to pop inside your mind.
"No," you remarked. "Let's just go to class, w better hurry or else we'll be late." You quickly moved your body to escape from his embrace and turned your head away.
"But you're-"
"Satori, please," you insisted.
"I-" he stopped. "Fine."
You smiled. "Thank you."
The walk to school was silent, literally, and it terrified you. The 'people' who you thought was walking in the background suddenly disappeared, it's as if everything was just a figment of your imagination —undeniably, it is.
Everything was just a piece of coding, scripted by the horrible crutches of the game's system. The only real people you could talk to is Satori, Yuri, and... Monika.
As if encountering a traceback error in your brain, you froze. Wait. Satori? Isn't he supposed to be Sayori?
And if you're MC, shouldn't you be a male?
How did you even get here in the first place?
Are you reincarnated, or transmigrated?
You know that you can't trust the past memories embedded into you brain, if you're going into what Monika said in the game's third act, it could be just a ploy since you're the game's MC.
"We're here," said a voice.
You looked up and saw Satori giving you a sad smile. You felt your heart ache, seeing the light dimmed from his eyes. Right. Satori, just like the original Sayori, has depression.
You swore to yourself that you will do whatever it takes to not let him suffer the fate the original character had.
Even if it takes deleting Monika again.
For some unknown reason, you felt like someone stab you with a knife straight to chest at the thought of deleting your comfort character, Monika.
"O-oh, thank you." You gave him a determined smile. He nodded and turned to face the way where his class is supposed to be, only to be stopped when you reached out for his sleeves.
He turned to you with confusion written on his eyes. Seriously, with all the knowledge you have in your mind, you already predicted that Satori would be using that expression most of the time.
"About the Literature Club," you started. "Come and fetch me after class, I don't know the way to your clubroom."
His eyes lightened up, a huge smile plastered across his face. "You decided to join?"
You chuckled at his expression, feeling a bit of weight disappearing from your shoulders. "Yeah, you know that I'm an avid reader so I guess the literature club would be a great thing for me to start."
Your eyes widened as he scooped you in for a tight hug, burying his face on your neck. "I'm so glad you decided to join. You'll finally meet new friends, you'll have a wider choice of people to hang out with."
You froze at his statement. It might seemed innocent, but knowing how Sayori acts in the game, you know that there's a hidden meaning. You hugged him back, pulling him against you tighter.
"Even if I have a lot of people to hang out with, you'll be my number one, Satori. You're irreplaceable, okay? So don't let those sad thoughts linger in your head," you whispered, giving his back a comforting rub.
He pulled away with wide and teary eyes. "How did you-"
You gave him a boop in the nose to cut him off. "You're my best friend. I know you more than anything in this world."
"I-I- thank you, Y/N."
You chuckled. "Anything for you, Satori."
The bell suddenly rang, starting the both of you. "Oh, crap! We're going to be late! See you after class, Satori!"
He laughed. "See you!"
You both ran to your classroom.
