I was taking a walk at around 4pm when I passed a tree full of starlings, by the back of the cricket pitch. I didn't have any equipment with me other than my phone, so I opened the Handyrecorder app and tried to shield the in-built microphones from the wind - not very successfully as you can hear. I was right by the busy road, so cars are whooshing past. There are also some crickets in there too (The insects, not the game). I wish it had been a stereo recording, but there we are.
A recording of my bus journey this afternoon after work (10th June 2022). This is the last bus from Corsham to Trowbridge which I got on at Holt and was the only passenger. The bus won't fit down the tiny Staverton link road so has to go along the main Bradford on Avon road then dogleg back to Staverton bridge along the raised road known as the Causeway. The driver gets a good hurtle on and I was really into the sounds of the bus shaking and the wind whistling through the open window. I didn't have any microphones to hand and no headphones, so I opened the Zoom Handy recorder app, put the phone on my lap and hoped for the best. Therefore, this is a mono recording. The recording starts to fade out as we set off over Staverton Bridge after idling at the lights where the driver took the opportunity to count the coinage. This is compressed into a 4.6 MB mp3 from the original 13.9 MB WAV file

Should Jazz Go Back to Mono?
This post in Burning Ambulance states the case for returning to mono recordings for the most immediate listening experience. Riding on the coattails of Sony's new release of nine Miles Davis Columbia recordings in mono probably doesn't hurt that case.
