Shout out to folks with Blue Cone Monochromacy!
What if Dettlaff is actually colorblind and that’s why the Resonance-memories are in grayscale...
re: that post about the FSA manga and colour blindness - the inside is in bLACK AND WHITE ANYWAY - sincerely, a person that totally never got confused by this and didn't have trouble telling the colours apart every few pages while I was reading
Anon, I feel like you might've needed to read some of the other reblogs on that post. The manga does a decent job of differentiating all four five boys pretty well!
In any case, that would just make me perpetuate the joke harder, because the type of colorblindness in my family is cone monochromacy.
For the uninitiated, that means grayscale! On everything! No color at all. Myself and both my siblings (brother and sister) had the unusual roll chances of actually, any of us 50/50 on colorblindness! Thanks mom and dad, for contributing to the gene pool!
Color vision deficiency is the inability to see the difference between different colors as one or more light-sensitive pigments are not present in the cones. Read some of the surprising facts about it.
Monochromat
Alistair, There’s a popular new fad going around my school. It’s these little devices that flash different colors up in sequence. I’m colorblind, so I can’t actually appreciate the colors. It’s getting unsettling. Outside of class, everyone just stands in the hall staring at them. They don’t play videos, they don’t play games, they don’t have information. It’s just colors. Now it’s started to…

Script Example - Monochromacy

PAGE 1
Note to Colorist: Keith, our main character, is completely color blind. He sees in monochromatic colors, and since we are seeing the world through his eyes even if not directly, the whole comic will be in black and white, and grey perhaps if that seems appropriate. He also has a colored aura that will appear when he’s at the scene of a violent crime, which goes on to effect other people around him, in his eyes. The color and where it will be is in the description of the panels. Think of it like a pop color, it’s there to make whatever it’s highlighting stand out to the reader, as it makes them stand out to Keith. In the case of this issue, the color is orange.
Panel 1
Just a panel full of orange, solid. Wide panel.
KEITH/CAPTION
Orange. Why fuckin’ orange? It’s almost as bad as yellow.
KEITH/CAPTION
And it’s everywhere.
Panel 2
Camera pulls out a little, hair visible through the orange tinge.
KEITH/CAPTION
So goddamn bright, it’s enough to make you sick. Everywhere’s so damn orange.
Panel 3
Pull out again. Tight shot of a young woman’s face, eyes closed. Looks almost peaceful.
KEITH/CAPTION
Even her skin’s that shitty fuckin’ color, like it’s oozing from her pores.
Panel 4
Pull out. We can see her torso now, but make sure the top of her head’s still cut off by the panel border. We want to save the surprise of the blood and gooey bits for last. For reference, however, she’s had her head repeatedly smacked against the asphalt she’s on. She’s wearing a blouse, all still tinged orange.
KEITH/CAPTION
Her clothes.
Panel 5
Pull back. Looking down at her full body, still almost an illusion that she’s sleeping.
KEITH/CAPTION
God, I hate this fuckin’ color.
PAGE 2
Panel 1
Splash page. Finally reveal the grisly truth of her brains splattered about her head like an orange halo.
KEITH/CAPTION
Don’t even look like blood. Just an orange goddamn mess. Like someone fisted an orange to a pulp.
KEITH/CAPTION
She’s too young. Too fuckin’ goddamn orange.
Pitches
Each of these are in varying stages of development, from merely a concept, to more fleshed out ideas. Please feel free to contact if you are interested in hearing more, or working collaboratively on any of them.
MONSTRUM ACADEMY
Grimmy, the child of Death, can’t stand the sight of blood. Maika is an anxious, warm-blooded reptilian. Sigourney could care less about the grace usually equated with mantids, and would rather brawl than perform. Antonio is a happily pudgy, and vegan, werewolf. These young creatures struggle against the expectations weighing on them from their society, as everyone does. While their school works to teach them their respective roles as a species, it also encourages celebration of individuality. With support from each other, the kids search for a middle ground on which to thrive on.
The short version: Monster kids with very human struggles of trying to figure out where they belong, and who they really are.
MONOCHROMACY
Detective Keith Chowdhury has a condition called 'monochromacy', and can only see the world in white, black, and grey. Except, unfortunately for him, when he is on the scene of a crime. Call it a gift or a curse, psychic auras or magic, Keith has an ability that ties the victims to the perpetrators of the crime. One singular color floods his vision, and a deep line of it connects the dead or injured to their attacker. One might think this would make his job as simple as following the trail, but it's never that easy. Aside from the agonizing migraines, and toll on his system it takes, people with his powers are only whispered about in fear. With the barely willing help of coroner Gail Terrell, an older woman who has what would barely pass as telepathy, Keith grudgingly tracks down criminals to rid himself of the seething color-- and to barely hold onto his job.
The short version: Two crabby people try to solve cases with their barely functioning psychic powers, and grudging ability to work together.
THE HELL BEASTS
Werewolves exist. In all shapes and sizes, genders and colors. Prejudice exists as well, unfortunately, just as it does with humans. Tired of being looked down upon for their differences, and needing an outlet to let loose, a group of young women form a motorcycle club. These lady lycans ride for respect, understanding, and each other. And there is absolutely nothing that Mercy Ray wouldn’t do to join. When an opportunity to get her foot in the door arises, Mercy doesn’t hesitate. However, when trouble with a rival vampire club reaches a fever pitch, her loyalty and resolve will be tested. Will she find it in herself to raise some hell, or fall beneath the wheels?
The short version: Queer, diverse women, and non-binary, werewolves in a motorcycle club.
GROTESQUE GOREGANA
Slithering up to send more shocks down your spine, it’s that venomous viper back to disturb your slumber. The Queen Cobra herself, Goregana!
Grotesque Goregana is the grim gorgon of the airwaves, and she’s ready to drag you screaming into her lair of macabre tales featuring final girls, the otherworldly otherwise gendered, and specters of every sexuality. She may trap you in her coils, but the only feast she has in mind tonight is your fear!
The short version: An anthology of short horror comics presented as an homage to horror hosts.
TIL DEATH DO US PART
Anthony James Jones has lived his life clambering up the rungs of respect and power, uncaring of those he stepped on along the way. His willingness to make any deal to get what he wants stays with him when he enters the limbo between life and Death herself. He believes himself clever when he strikes a bargain with Death, without a second thought for his wife and child getting wrapped up in the nasty business. Luckily for them, this tired reaper is not as cold as she might seem.
The short version: Death is here, she’s queer, and she’s going to take your wife from your ungrateful self.
