I like that neither of them get it.  They think fusion is just a mechanical thing--it’s probably easier between Gems of the same type, and Aquamarine probably only has major experience with the Topazes.  Monocle even saw Ruby and Sapphire re-fuse!  They have no idea why it isn’t working for them.

it is so weird to see something that makes a ruby seem large

I’m not even at “how did these two become a fusion” yet.  How did these two meet?  Is there just a Steven Universe Hate Club that got together every once in a while?  Did Aquamarine track down other Gems that had interacted with Steven?  Did these two meet and fall in love and develop a need to make up for their behavior somehow once they’d been fused or is this a ploy?

if it turns out neither of these gems is even involved and it’s just a lookalike I’m going to be even more disappointed
