WWE Raw 9/20/21 Review

The Bloodline vs The New Day

This match gave me way too much hope for the rest of this episode.

It was great. Right when I was concerned it wouldn’t be intense enough, Roman decided to treat Kofi like he was one of Alexa’s ragdolls. The twists and reversals were great. Xavier is a little clunky against Roman, which made him seem like a disappointing weak link and therefore a disappointing ending. I should’ve known Bobby would attack after the match, but I still didn’t like it.

Doudrop vs Eva Marie

I didn’t hate this segment, but the feud is getting stale.

Randy Orton vs AJ Styles

Randy got the upper hand with the offense style for most of this match. Lots of close physical impact, not flashy or jumpy. Overall okay, but the spiderman meme reference made it feel great.

Shayna Baszler vs Nia Jax

Lots of feelings in this match. The first good, with the pre-match verbal altercation. Less so with Nia’s later acting. Overall a short and weird segment.

Mustafa Ali and Monsoor vs Humberto Carillo and Angel Garza

This had a lot of energy for the crowd to just not care. It felt like everyone expected this to be a nap match, which we needed, but it managed to be engaging. In short, it had no right to be as good as it was.

Nikki ASH and Rhea Ripley vs Natalya and Tamina

There’s an argument this match shouldn’t have happened but it happened regardless so let’s review! Surprisingly energetic and fun. I’m not even mad at the result! I hope they can hang on to those titles at least long enough to get a real tag team image.

Alexa’s Playground

Alexa is amazing in this gimmick. I enjoyed them bringing up the past, especially Alexa’s gimmick history. I feel they don’t do that enough outside of commentary. Also, they did a really good job of dodging talking about...Charlotte’s father. We didn’t need that this week. Or ever. That’s fine too.

Jeff Hardy vs Sheamus

The image of Sheamus removing his mask felt like it should have been a bigger deal. I feel like a blood pack had to be involved. Enough of my conspiracy theories, the stipulation seemed a little unexpected, or at least unexplained to me. Not that I’m complaining. The match itself was fun if a bit exhausting at this point in the night. And now we have a triple threat for Sunday!

Man, Extreme Rules is this Sunday. When did that happen?

Big E vs Roman Reigns vs Bobby Lashley

I’ve made my opinions on Lashley clear, but for continuity purposes, I’m glad this match happened. The All-Mighty chapter can come to an end (hopefully), Big E got to objectively show he is on champion level, and we got to see Roman wrestle by himself. I disagree with the crowd, this wasn’t awesome, but it wasn’t bad either.
