What do you think Grimmer's house/apartment (or any character from Monster) would look like? :3
Oh, let's think..
Full disclosure I'm the worst at interior design and layout and figuring out what homes should look like (reasons I rarely draw indoor scenes!) But I think for Grimmer, it's not too hard to guess.
He's not really staying in one place for long, most of the time. He definitely had a permanent home with his wife for a while, which I'm sure was as traditional home-life as could be, but outside of that he's been from place to place mostly for his work as a spy or a journalist. To Grimmer, I don't think "a house" is really much except a box you live in and sustain yourself and are protected from the elements. Given that his experience with home life has either been "evil orphanage" or "fake town with fake family" he doesn't really have any personal attachment to the idea of having a place of his own.
So for the most part, where he lives is going to be practical. We saw him renting hotel rooms that had terrible views but excellent escape routes; that's what he's prioritizing when he looks for a place to live. If he's setting down roots a little more permanently - for example, during his work as a spy if he has to integrate himself into a community - he might give his home a bit more character; he'll know what sort of "role" he's supposed to play, and base it on that. Photos of his "loved ones" hung on walls and such. If it's just for him though, it's going to look a little barren. It's not like he's staying long, and even if he is, he doesn't have the kind of attachment to a home that other people do.
The only thing that I think Grimmer really thinks as important for a home that he lives in is probably a decent kitchen. He likes to cook, and having plenty of space to do that would make him happy.
