Hey, you know what would be fucked?

So, MHWilds comes out next week—the full game, not just the small teasers we’ve had for the last few betas. As far as we know, this is a game that is very heavy on exploration, with an underlying mission of trying to find survivors from this horrific wyvern attack.

So, what if, we all boot the game up that first day, and our making our way through the first area, and then suddenly, off in the distance we hear someone calling out for help. MH has had voice acting for a while now, so it wouldn’t be surprising, and it would definitely catch the handler’s attention. Maybe we get a new quest to try and find the source of the voice, try and find survivors, so we’re weaving through the arid desert, getting closer to the sounds, until you round a corner and…nothing.

And then you hear the voice again, clearer than ever before, behind you…and you see this motherfucker:

And then it makes the unmistakable sound of Rey Dau’s cry…and you realize you’re fucked.

Monster Hunter Wild Characters!

New characters from the Monster Hunter Wilds trailer!

Gemma, our Smithy for the expedition!

Alma, our Handler with all the knowledge!

Nata! A survivor of whatever happened? The story seems to imply some Hunter's, a failed expedition, or maybe a guild group went missing? Enough to send us to the 'Forbidden Lands?'

The Wild Hunters and our Palico, both fully voiced acted this time!

The Wild Hunter without the armor. The flashback is really washed out, implying that it was rough circumstances that got us the lead hunter position or and emergency to be sent to the 'Forbidden Lands'.

A wider shot of the group. The little plushie hanging off her belt is cute! Maybe a new cosmetic slot like pendants? And maybe it means that Gemma may be quite experienced in smithing… since a little girl you can say… Also love the hairstyle!

An older Admiral? I don't see it as it is probably just similar design like they did with Elder Fugen. The banner on his wall is just using the Hunter's Guild symbol.

An unrevealed character too? A person from the expedition lost, a native to the land, or just another Hunter from our expedition? They don't seem to by a Wyverian either.

An image of the new starter pack monster Doshaguma. It seems it'll be a pack battle like the starter Fanged Wyverns. It looks like a bear cross with a dog of sorts. Beardog!

And the punch-froggy monster Chatacabra! Like the Pukei-Pukei it has a long tongue and licks itself like Brachy!

And our trusty mount the Seikret! Who, will allow us to change weapons mid-fight now! I was right!

Monster Hunter Wilds is secretly Monster Hunter 4: Reunion, and I am so hyped!!

So, apparently, earlier today PlayStation randomly released the new teaser trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds, which looks so good, oh my god! But during the trailer, we got to see and meet some new faces—new characters we’ll be traveling with in this game…and it didn’t take long for people to pick up on the subtle details and realize what’s going on.

First, let’s meet the man that’s sending us out on this mission. Older, grizzled, wears a faded yellow ascot and an orange jacket that really accents his shoulders. Now, where have I seen someone like that before…

Oh, right! The Caravaneer, leader of the Capital C Caravan from Monster Hunter 4. Sure, it’s not a total one-to-one, but it’s also been over a decade and the graphical quality from 3DS to PS5 can allow for some redesigns.

Another point of note was the new Handler, who has a striking resemblance to the Guildmarm from MH4. Now, it’s likely not her, considering Guildmarm does have a name (Sophia) and this new Handler doesn’t share it, but she could be a relative—or, at the very least, there to conjure thoughts of the MH4 Handler.

But then we get to the new Weapon- and Armorsmith, and immediately what jumps out to me is “good lord she’s hot!!”

…but the second thing that jumps out to me is the fact that she is a blonde-haired weaponsmith wearing slightly baggy yellow pants, a midriff-baring top with a hint of orange, and a blue bandanna in her hair. Which reminds me of one very special someone from MH4…

…Little Miss Forge.

And if that’s not convincing—look at the Weaponsmith’s hip, right beside her bit belt and pack of tools!

You see that plushie? Well, we’ve seen that plushy before—

—because it was the Guildmarm’s hand-sewn plushie she had in her official concept art for her sleep time!

Monster Hunter Wilds stars the members of the Capital C Caravan, now a decade down the road, and I’m so happy to see them again!!

Monster Hunter Wild Gameplay and Voices

The gameplay trailer was fun! It's cool that it looks like we'll have various moves and jump attacks from the Seikat.

It seems like there is a heavy focus on mounted combat, dodging, quick recovery. I wonder if the Seikat will have a health bar, and if it's depleted you lose access to it for the hunt, have to heal, or just a recharge.

I am mixed however on the voice. I don't know how I feel about the Wild Hunter talking more. I liked with the mute hunters that you can more easily project yourself onto it. It feels like this is giving them more of a canon personality. Which the previous did have with how they acted, but that was more easily ignored. I dunno. I'm not feeling that. I didn't like it in Rise, which is why I played the MH language. Especially if there's only one voice, unless they have multiple differnet sets that change the personality. Even then...

I don't really like it when it's pushed on us more. It's like with Fallout 4, having a 'canon' personality feels a bit damaging to.

I'm okay with the Palico voice though!

With all the remakes Capcoms done with RE, I wonder if there’s a genuine chance for Monster Hunter remasters.

I don’t really think they need remakes on the level of the Resident Evil REmakes, but even just giving them a polish and online support, a collection could earn them a fair amount. What with the obvious want from the whole fanmade community online for Tri.

I would love to go back to Tri and not just watch videos.

There’s a few things I’d like to see in Wilds that I hope will be confirmed.

I personally would like to see what the Sea People look like in the engine, along with Troverians or the First Wyverians.

It could work with the potential more nomadic hunting, having various towns in different areas you can visit similar to the Third Fleet Base in World.

That’s to say I also hope that Underwater Combat returns! MHTri being my first will never not make me miss it. And of course, Lagiacrus! Best monster!

I really enjoyed the Lynian tribes puzzles, and hope to see even more, maybe even a full town, of them.

I could live with or without any Ancient Civilization lore. Personally I like it being in the background, a consistent reminder of the past, always just out of reach of understanding. Barely able to glean the odd blueprint or reverse-engineering.

And of course, the one thing that I’ll be genuinely disappointed by if it’s not in the game.

More canteen and cooking cutscenes!

Having watched the trailer a few times now, I did notice something that makes me excited!

As you can see, there seems to be some type of bowgun in the Hunter's satchel. Meaning that potentially we'll be able to switch weapons mid-fight! That's such a neat idea and honestly it reminds me of my personal speculation I had for MH6.

I had fun idea that the next MH would have something called a 'Wingdrop' or 'Drakedrop' where you could throw something like a paintball or fire a flare in the air and then a wingdrake would drop a box/satchel/locker of a premade equipment loadout that you could dynamically switch to mid-hunt without going back to the camp. You could even have a separate one for items so you can restock too!

My idea was since World focused so much on Bio-Energy and the natural ecosystem, that the next MH would potentially focus on 'Evolution', I.e be the new modifier phenomena such as Tempered in World and Afflicted/Risen in Rise. Even have the new Elder Dragon threat being a monster that force 'evolves' a monster and is throwing natural evolution out of whack. You can maybe even toss in some lore on why subspecies and variants seemingly pop out of nowhere so quickly/change so rapidly.

So monsters could 'evolve' mid hunt and thus change up their ressistences towards the weapon you're currently using. Let's say your fighting a Rathalos with a thunder weapon or a raw weapon, when you cross a certain threshold of damage with it, he begins to 'evolve' and nullifies/resists thunder damage or raw damage from then on. Meaning that if you were a bow/dual blade build you'd be screwed and do way less damage, causing you to call in a drop and switch your gear mid-fight to one that works! Maybe even have it where you can stun the monster by leading it under the drop.

Of course I thought on it and realized that that would be way too many moving parts, and you'd also have to make two builds for a single monster, they would have to scale every monster for every resistance type, you'd have to make sure its all correct and then it just all fell apart. But it was a fun little makeshift idea.

Regardless, I'm happy it may seem that one of my speculations may come true.

Personally I LOVED the treasure hunts and Endemic life hunting. The sheer satisfaction I got when I finally got the Wintermoon Nettle almost equaled Fatalis. I also like the whole gathering ingredients for the Canteen, made it feel like we really were exploring the New World.

It’s one of the main reasons I didn’t vibe with Rise when they made them all utility only and gave them obvious names and stuff and got rid of the Canteen stuff.
