Voices of the Void Journal
I started a new game for the VotV update and while doing it I figured I'd write down stuff in character day by day. It's pretty fun and helps keep track of what I've done and experienced.
Destiny 2 'Ending'
Destiny 2 is proof that a game can have the most amazing, rich, and deep lore imaginable wrapped with stories, characters, and prose so grand and lively that it makes you want to believe a future as bleak as it is hopeful and possible.
Hands down some of the best gameplay in the industry with unique abilities that bend sci-fi and fantasy perfectly and gunplay so good it's literally unmatched by any other game out there.
An aesthetic so cool that I have yet to find universe that even matches with, just the concept of magic sci-fi space liches capable of ignoring the concept of paracausality because they want to all in the name of defending a nearly dead world because you just gotta have hope.
But the way it was delivered murdered the game so badly it's not even funny. Not even WoW matched it somehow. At least you can still go to all the locations in the past xpacs in WoW. The fact that WoW actually beat that somehow is amazing. Bungie beat Blizzard in anti-player design and that's impressive.
I will not believe this is the end of that universe cuz' that'd go against the fundamental message of Destiny so I have hope it will return one day.
Imp girl with zero insecurities about anything
So true honestly
In general I implore people to seek out actual bad stories just to see what an actual bad story is. Like I’ve seen so many people claim stuff like Dawntrail, TADC, Deltarune ch.5, Backrooms, Iron Lung and stuff are terrible and bottoms of the barrel and poorly written and like
I experienced World of Warcraft Battle for Azeroth and Shadowlands back to back.
I had to witness my favorite faction and characters basically become evil villains and full on character assassinations of entire races.
We were meant to hand-wave a literal genocide of a race as ‘morally grey’ and that one of the guys who did it was sad about it- WHO ALSO HAD A HAND IN A DIFFERENT- WORSE genocide and how he has no ‘honor’ and that was the main plot point.
Like it so irreversibly poised the well of who the ‘bad’ guy was it wasn’t even funny.
I can’t even get into Shadowslands, it was torture.
Also literally everything about Azerite armor. One of the WORSE in game system in the entire game oh my god.
Like genuinely, I need people who call stuff like this awful and trash- and mind you criticisms are good, none of those stories I mentioned are free of flaws and I have my own gripes with them I’m not saying you can’t not like it or think it’s bad, but please, please experience what happens when a story or game is actually bad and that the writers have no plan and do not care. Like no joke it will make you appreciate those stories so much more.
Deltarune Ending Speculation!
I find it odd that there’s a big support to the idea that “choices don’t matter” in Deltarune and that there’s is definitely going to be one ending. I find the idea that Deltarune is going to have a sad/depressing ending strange at all. At most I see one with a bittersweet tinge like Undertale did in its True Ending. But I do think it’s going to be a happy ending.
Even with the Weird Route- No Mercy route isn’t required for Undertale’s true ending and tbh while it expands more on lore, I don’t really think it’s necessary to understand Undertale’s message.
I don’t think Weird/No Mercy is ‘necessary’ at all really. I’ve never felt any inclination to do them at all and I don’t feel like I’m missing out on context or the message of both.
Like yes, Deltarune does handle more mature themes than Undertale did, but ultimately it is a a hopeful game. Just because there is drama, doesn’t mean that’s the entire game. It’s steeped in comedy, heartwarming moments, and positivity in general.
I mean Gerson says thoughout all of his dialogue, and Flowery hammers home the idea, “Do you really need to follow the prophecy?” And “Write your own ending and find a new path.”
Everything is leading to something changing and use getting a better ending, But, I think the thing is is that ending requires US the Player and Soul, to step back. To stop trying to control the narrative. OURS- the Players choices, don’t matter, because it’s not our place to decide what Kris, Susie, Noelle, or Ralsei story is going to be. We can only lend our help and power.
I don’t keep up with the Gaster/Friend/Meta parts much because I don’t have an interest in that, but I honestly thing that that ending would even defeat them. Because clearly the Player is helping Gaster by doing what we’re doing. Stepping back and allowing Kris and them to do their own thing would take them by surprise.
We need to place our Hopes and Dreams in them that they can Save the World.
Susie and Gerson in Chapter 5!
It's a small detail, but I realized on a rewatch of the scene that Alvin at the church is even more heartwarming than I thought, because he admits that while the note from his father is sweet- it was SUSIE who really inspired him.
The imperfections, misspellings- the sheer confidence she had, that's what made him decide to write his own sermons and pick up the pen again. It was Susie who helped him out in the end, which is what Gerson wanted all along. He wanted Susie to rely on HER strength, and most importantly, believe in herself because she could do such great things if she did.
Fantastic payoff.
DELTARUNE CHAPTER 5 SPOILERS
I've seen some people be confused and annoyed that the Chapter 5 secret boss, "Doesn't have anything to do with the shadow crystals and is a meme.'" and doesn't meaningfully progress the story.
We learn shadow crystals are 'failed dreams.'
The entire fight is that her ghost and her puppet body aren't able to come together, and are constantly fighting which results in the body shutting down and almost dying, but resolving it means she comes to terms with what her body needs and is far happier.
Her SOUL comes to understand what her BODY needs.
SOUL -> PLAYER
BODY -> KRIS
It's literally as obvious as it can be.
I really enjoy Asgore as a character because most likely he is the single strongest person in both Undertale and Deltarune, but he's so depressed and divorced his power is like always capped at 40%.
Don't forget, I'm with you in the dark.
NEVER GIVE UP!!!
I mostly consumed TADC in a vacuum away from the fandom because Glitch isn't really normally my thing since like I'm only really interested in TADC and the Gaslight District (also a hope one day about Cliffside, that will NEVER DIE I WAS ON THAT HILL SPREADING IT TO MY FREINDS BACK IN 2018) but like
Idk how people don't get the trans allegory in TADC, it was like the most unsubtle thing ever like a few episodes in. It is subtle in the earlier episodes and I didn't realize it either of course because I was wondering what direction the show was going still and because the early half focuses more on the other characters, but like the minute they start focusing on Jax it started to become very clear that she had issues with her self-image and was obsessed with gender identity to a degree.
I mean they showed Jax's room as a girl's room. Which I guess you could argue is a sign of her repressing her femininity with toxic masculinity- not to mention her speaking about how masculine she was and being very very uncomfortable when she realizes that she doesn't have a tail, literally not knowing her own body- but that falls apart with the other stuff added later like the maid outfit thing. Because she did not act angry, Jax really seemed humiliated then most likely because she felt some sort of elation from it but felt ashamed of it in front of others.
Plus one of the torments that Caine used on her was ripping her skin off and leaving her exposed as people pointed and laughed.
It's also like, very obvious from the get go that Jax is lying to herself about literally everything. Like the minute I saw Jax in the pilot I thought, "This guy is soo deep in his coping method for this place that he's probably unable to meaningfully reflect unless something can snap him out of it." Literally lost in layers of irony that she doesn't even know what's real or not.
Because I do feel people forget that they are literally imprisoned and have been for literal YEARS. Like they are just prisoners. That does NOT allow for meaningful reflection on yourself a lot of the time,
Then like the second the bow was on Jax's head it was just a flat out confirmation.
Also her room is the trans flag colors. Literally it just is. Look at this picture of the room brightened up.
Also the full blown montage of "Isn't she lovely."
The song speaking about a girl being born and the sheer joy that comes from it. I wonder how that could possibly relate to a trans allegory.
hehe
They’re gonna be talking about the Summer of ‘26 in the gaming world for decades.
Say what you will about Geoff Keighley, but the man basically single-handedly used his influence to effectively revive a pseudo-E3, cuz in the span of one week we got a solid State of Play and Xbox Showcase, with a generational Summer’s Game Fest all to tie off with a 50 minute Nintendo Direct.
Like this has been one of the most insane weeks in gaming in years.
If in Final Fantasy 17 they add the FFXIV Job system using the new FF7 Remake FITS and combat system and make it so that you can change jobs mid-combat, it will be a contender for best Final Fantasy game I'll ever play.
Imagine being able to play a lore-accurate Warrior of Light.
FINAL FANTASY 7: REVELATION!!!!!!
YOU CAN JUMP OUT AND PARACHUTE DOWN LIKE A BATTLE ROYALE ANYWHERE!
VINCENT AND CID LOOK INSANE! DRAGOON AND MONSTER STYLE!
THE COMBAT SYSTEM LOOKS RIDICULOUSLY GOOD!
IT HAS A JOB-LIKE SYSTEM!!!!!
IT LOOKS SOOOO GOOOD AHHHH!
