I know Rick C-137 is generally speaking a huge monster, but here we have him:

S02E09: Helping Arthricia, even though she literally attacked him and left both Morty and him there to die

S04E02: Trying to comfort the family of the guy who pooped in his toilet (Tony) after his death, whom he previously hated so much, he put in some sort of stasis (doesn't really make it better that he was drugged during stasis)

S06E06: Pushing the dinosaurs to save themselves, even though he blatantly hated them (admittedly, he mainly did it to prove a point, but still)

S06E08: Trying to comfort Pissmaster, even though he literally spoke of his granddaughter in porno terms

S07E02: Comforting this weird hole mob boss (Chuxly) in his dying moments after Chuxly held his family hostage

S07E09: Apologizing (sorta) to Bigfoot after Bigfoot tried to kill him in revenge for his torture, also hurting Morty in the process

S09E03: Making up with crazy Kung Fu guy who tried to kill Morty for no reason

S09E06: Hugging alien Ganondorf, who was trying to kill and dissect him

...But when it came to Eyepatch Morty, who had literally saved his life and helped him get closure by allowing him to kill his nemesis

Rick's response was this?!

towards a kid having the face of someone he loved?!

who basically only wanted to hang out with him???

In the upcoming season 9 episode "Field of Dreams", we see Morty passing through his family mourning him through VR sets.

He looks puzzled (or... cautious) as he passes through them.

Everyone is reacting differently. Beth and Summer want to hug someone, Rick drinks (HAHA), Jerry... mowns the lawn?!

It's unclear whether MORTY is the one who set them up. Could it be they have not realized this is all happening in a different dimension?? (Even Rick??? Did he do it and forget??) Did Morty do this to make them appreciate him more?

But then, Morty goes on to use a portal gun straight afterwards, ALONE. Did he set this up to distract them while he is strolling through dimensions? Is he tip-toing among them so he can sneak away?

Or did they do this to themselves accidentally as they spent time looking at other dimensions, and they got caught up in the feels?

Or this is all happening to a different family? Did THEIR Morty set this up? Is THEIR Morty truly gone, either ran away or dead, and having no body to say goodbye to, they do it through another dimension's funeral? (weird that whichever Rick lives this did not replace Morty with a clone. Could this have something to do with the gene lock placed on Morty Clones? Are most surviving Mortys in the multiverse unclonable?)

Are these random birds, or are they crows???

Did Morty wonder into a dimension where he was permanantly replaced by crows???

...Is Morty wondering through dimensions where he is, in one way or another, gone?

Of course, there are a million possible explanations for the above scenes. Morty is sneaking away to meet a bird gal, it's all an elaborate prank, this is just a bit, whatever.

Buuut

If my theories about Puppetloser Rick's (aka the Rick responsible for the cables inside Eyepatch Morty's head) existence are correct...

I had hypothesized he would need to scan the multiverse in order to find his old sidekick, for which he might have needed the lock placed on the Morty clones cracked. Unable to do so himself (cause he's a LOSER), I had supposed he sent a puppet to prowl around the Citadel's ruins until someone more skilled than him achieved this feat, with him speeding the process by providing... ergh... fresh material.

When that proved fruitless (because everything exploded), I had hypothesized he would need the one true Morty, the Morty whose copy all clone Mortys are, who probably doesn't have any gene lock on him...

...AND WHO MIGHT BE MORTY PRIME.

I had hypothesized one of the ways he could get access to Morty Prime's brainwaves would be to lure him out of his dimension and his Rick's "protection" and straight into a trap (see points 4 and 7 here. Strangely, point 7 included an alternate reality VR set, although I had imagined a different use for it)

And here in "Field of Dreams" we (maybe) have Morty Prime wondering through dimensions without Morty, ALONE.

I am very scared.

You know what, I got excited at first, but Morty does not seem to be in much of a hurry in this scene. I have trouble seeing this as the result as someone's intentional lure. I could be wrong about everything, or Puppetloser-related plot might get advanced in a different way.

Edit 2: I just realised that in this "Field of Dreams" we may be witnessing point 9 of my Puppetloser Rick Is Hunting Eyepatch Morty theory: Puppetloser Rick brute-forcing his search through the multiverse by attacking every Morty he can find. If we come across an inordinate number of Mortys dead or missing...

...that could be Puppetloser Rick's doing.

And Morty Prime could stumble on him by accident, right when he's slicing some Morty's head open.

Season 9 predictions

('m doing the same thing I did for season 8, despite it failing hilariously, cause I'm still convinced I'm right about some things, so I'm presenting you with basically a condensed version of this)

So I'm guessing that we'll see a combination of:

a) other Mortys being hunted down across the multiverse, going mysteriously missing or found brutally killed. The perpetrator will, of course, be a (particularly unpleasant) Rick.

and/or

b) Morty Prime being targeted by a (particularly unpleasant) Rick who will nonetheless have no special interest in MP himself, but will appear to the viewers to want him either to kickstart the Morty Market again, or to use as bait to lure Rick Prime in.

AND/ OR

c) Some (particularly unpleasant) Rick impersonating Rick Prime, or seemingly wanting to lure Rick Prime by oh-I-don't-know-using-Morty-Prime-as-bait, or coming across as an aspiring Rick-Prime-wannabe, or having Rick-Prime-level tech, or outright having Rick-Prime-Rick-Prime tech (like-- either copied or stolen from Prime's stash now that Prime's dead), or claiming to be a Rick Prime backup that rebelled, freed himself, and became completely independent (case in point: a Rick having SOME sort of connection to Rick Prime, although in no way living up to real Prime's hype)

(in any case, this hypothetical Rick perpetrator in scenarios a, b, c will be killed by a blow to the head)

and/or

d) Random Ricks complaining about Mortys using their portal fluid without permission / mentioning their portal fluid getting used up more quickly than they had scheduled / blaming the "portal fluid goblin" (I made that up) or whatever for stealing their portal fluid / discovering someone (another Rick) had sneaked in to steal portal fluid / ...or these Ricks otherwise outright going missing or being found dead; along with their portal gun and portal fluid stash being gone (after an extensive discussion among fans, I think the conclusion was that stealing other Ricks' portal fluid would be the easiest way to get it if you suck and are unable to make your own)

(if the Rick perpetrator is discovered, then he will be killed by a blow to the head)

AND/OR

e) One of said unpleasant Rick's robotic creations will seem to gain sentience and free will and rebel against him; a small light on it having turned distinctly yellow. (But it will die, potentially appearing to sacrifice itself to save Morty Prime)

I've been thinking about this similarity for a very long time, finally decided to post both scenes side by side.

I mean, I know it's not an actual connection-connection (they're two different shows and all)...

...but at the same time, I'm wondering if this similarity is not accidental.

If the writers in both shows deliberately chose that word.

If this is what children often call unsettling behavior they do not understand.

If I was a monstrously unrepentant Rick furiously searching for the long-lost grandson who once trapped me in a fate worse than death before running away, disappearing without a trace in the infinite multiverse...

...I would not only devise a number of plans and steps to look for said vanished grandson, but also prepare for the eventuality of finding him again.

And by that I unfortunately mean a way to resume control instantly.

(I, uh... made myself sick by writing this post. Ugh. Warning for... uh, I don't know. This is messed up. I feel messed up for thinking about it.)

So I'd imagine Puppetloser Rick would construct a projectile weapon, similar in spirit to Eyepatch Morty's fingerguns:

Something to connect to the implant and forcefully take over.

(I mean theoretically he could want to perform a surgery again but I imagine he'd be pretty impatient and have plenty of free time in his hands to prepare.)

Eyepatch Morty's version was pretty elegant and unassuming, a hidden last-defense mechanism with the sole purpose of incapacitating. It was compact, simple and unintrusive, and I imagine firing it against PLoser would not trigger any of Eyepatch Morty's still lurking mental restraints (because it's not "harming" PLoser).

Puppetloser Rick might theoretically choose a similar, discreet design; but given his monstrous nature, I imagine it would be blatantly designed as a weapon meant to harm as much as possible. I doubt it'd be meant to """"nicely"""" attach on the skin to connect to the part of the implant residing behind the forehead (like the fingergun).

Given that Eyepatch Morty supposedly tore the receiver out of his own eye socket, I imagine that PLoser's version would contain:

a new receiver. With the respective blue and red cables to connect to the remains of the implant. With maybe some kind of... alligator clip to forcefully latch directly to the cables themselves, instead of a proper connector that would need to fit at a precise angle to the respective connector still in the eye-socket. (Is a jawed alligator clip also a more violent option? Yes it is.) I imagine crazy science in Rick and Morty universe is advanced enough to make those alligator clips detect and latch on their targets automatically.

a piercing part right in the front of the projectile. He'd aim it at the eyepatched eye.

a (time?) healing part to restore the eye itself after the receiver was re-attached. Not out of any kindness to heal an open gaping wound, of course, but to seal the receiver in, and make removing it again impossible.

And all this in a single projectile, fired by a gun.

I imagine that, at its core concept, it might look a bit like this:

Aaaand it will of course be stopped by Eyepatch Morty's forcefield.

It's cool. No way this is happening to Eyepatch Morty again.

If I'm right, then he managed to get PLoser stuck in the Machine of Unspeakable Doom back when he was operating under an unsurmountable handicap; now that he's free, has stolen Rick intel, has infinite resources, plenty of time to prepare, his own portal fluid, the Omega Device schematics, and Rick C-137 to have his back, PLoser won't stand a snowflake's chance in hell.

He will be sent to hell.
