Electra Melody Face Redesign!

I got bored yesterday and kept thinking about the new Electra Melody doll from the Off White x Monster High partnership and as I mentioned before there was something off about the face to me so I decided to design it myself! I also don’t know much about fashion or makeup so I didn’t realize that these outfits are inspired from actual Off White design! That makes it kind of cool but I still don’t find the dress too appealing…

The first picture is the original, second is without the scales, and third is my full redesign! I also included the face on a picture with more of the outfit included to see if it would still mesh well. I forgot to add to the notes that I made the eyes a bit bigger because I miss Lagoona’s wide fishy eyes too lol!

As a fan of Venus I couldnt leave her without the artworks of the unreleased lines where she was supposed to show up. With this one I complete this mission.

Electra Melody

Off White x Monster High

Monster High just released the first lurk of their partnership with Off White! She launches October 13th, 2023 and retailed at $150 USD

My Opinions:

Honestly, I’m not too big of a fan of her…she looking good but I’m not sure if she’s $150 good. I definitely like the hair style and shoes (reminds me of like “plastics in the ocean” type deal because she looks like a sea monster or maybe it’s just the marine student in me 🤷‍♀️) but I feel like they could’ve done more with the outfit and face tbh.

I think the face and dress are what’s really throwing me off and I can’t quite explain why.

The only ones I kind of like is the one in the plaid/diamond dress and the one with wings…but I still don’t think they’re exactly worth $150 and I know it’s mainly due to the “name brand” pairing.

Jack and Sally Redesign!!

See reasonings for each redesign below! This was BEFORE I saw the newer/updated pictures!

Surprisingly, Sally was the EASIEST to redesign lol I had a set idea for her: give her her original dress design while also changing it slightly in case Monster High had some copyright issues. I wanted to keep the bottom part of her mermaid dress (tulle?) so I turned it into stockings and a one-sleeve glove! The changes stated below are to show the differences and trial-and-error with Jack

First: Original

Second: Simple change - turned the vest from orange-striped to red

Third: Gave the vest a whole new design with stripes that mimic a rib cage

Fourth: Rib cage stripes, but turned into Christmas tree to add some color from Sally’s dress

Fifth: His santa suit! Just thought it’d be fun to see! I know Monster High probably choose his original because it’s ✨ iconic ✨ but we rarely see him in this suit

Tbh while I was working on these redesigns, the dolls grew on me and I tried to get them, but was unsuccessful 😞 I was refreshing the page for about a half an hour straight on three different electronics before they went up. I had them in cart and a wait time of 8 minutes and they sold out. I know I shouldn’t be as devastated as I didn’t really like them at first but MAN that still hurt. Congrats to everyone else who got them though! They’re beautiful dolls!!

The Nightmare Before Christmas!

Tim Burton x Monster High

Monster high just revealed the first look of The Nightmare Before Christmas Skullector pack! They release October 27th, 2023 at $90 USD

My Opinions:

I personally don’t think I’ll be trying to get them, but they’re pretty dolls! The attention-to-detail is great and I love how close they stuck to the originals (like with Sally’s eyes)!

However, I wish they made Sally’s stitches more prominent. I didn’t even realize she had more than her mouth ones until making this post! They could’ve also given her some of the stick-on lashes that they’ve done for previous skullectors like the Haunt Couture line, but that might be a little nit-picky because I don’t personally like those lashes (that’s just me though! I feel like they make the face look a little clunky(?) but in this case it might make sense). I like the bottom half of the dress, but I wish they didn’t go with another mermaid style and sort of kept to her original one!

As for Jack, I don’t have much to complain about! The only thing I don’t really like about him is the orange on his vest/shirt. I don’t know if this will make sense, but it feels too bright and blends with Sally’s hair.

Maybe I’ll do what I did with Off White’s Electra Melody and show how I’d redesign them!
