It frustrates me when people conflate mentoring relationships with parental relationships, and furthermore when the mentorship between adults1️⃣ is conflated with a parental relationship that involves the mentor/parent "raising" the mentee/younger who is definitely not a child in need of raising. 🫠
1️⃣ an argument could be made — bc I'm not very well versed in this part of the lore — that the mentee may have been a teenager and thus not an adult, but I would personally argue that even if you see someone as "almost like a daughter", it doesn't actually make that a parental relationship. It's a pseudo parental relationship that doesn't carry the same level of parenting commitment that either a formal or informal adoption/fostering implies.
Like if you take a younger, subordinate(?) coworker under your wing, that's not the same as actual parenting and khfafhapfupautsdigp I know damn well that I'm splitting hairs and that I should stfu unless I'm willing to read the book myself 😱
