I don't remember the context of this part. Did the story frame Briala as being correct in thinking this way, or was she just in denial?

It’s framed as if she was being unreasonable for being angry with Celene about her genocidal crime, and is now having an epiphany that no, Celene shouldn’t be blamed because Briala wasn’t there to tell her not to, and Gaspard was the one who antagonized her which led her to decide to do that. 🙄 I’m glad by the end of the book she goes back on this again, though the fact that it’s more about her realizing Celene had her parents murdered than what she did to Halamshiral is still ugh.

Do you have any idea if that novel that David Gaider was writing with Fenris in it is still in the works? I haven't heard any fresh news about it in a long time, not even anything about it being cancelled.

It is not. It was cancelled. (Probably for the best.)

Welp I just finished reading Batman & Robin Eternal, and while I hated to see Harper going through so much pain, she REALLY shined in that story. I really can't wait to see her again, even if it's not as Bluebird. But anyway I just want to thank you for turning me on to this character. I don't think I would have been as interested in reading her comics if not for you hyping her up all the time. xP

That is great news! I have mixed feelings on the series as a whole, but there were some truly fantastic moments (thank you Genevieve Valentine for everything that you do). Harper is a great character and I’m so glad I was able to assist in any way with my recommendations!

Although I know we'll probably never see Bioware do it properly, I'm really interesting in writing an ex-templar companion seeking redemption, for that Dragon Age 4 Companions Challenge you reblogged a while ago. In your opinion, what would be the most important things to consider for writing a templar who seeks ACTUAL, PROPER redemption?

The #1 thing that I absolutely cannot stand is “redemption arcs” where things are just denied or excused. As in victim-blaming and/or “it was just a misunderstanding” for example. That is really not fair to to the mages that suffered under this proposed character. The character should fully acknowledge everything they’ve done wrong, understand why it was wrong, and not continue to do it.

Beyond acknowledging it, they should be clear with this in voice and action. Redemption entails doing something good, to try and atone for your bad.

Do not rely on other characters to explain what a changed and good person your character is. Let them prove it themselves too. And in fact, it is very unrealistic that everyone would just forgive them. Having people argue with them every once and a while, and how the character handles this would be a great show of changed character. Do they listen with understanding, or do they try to justify themselves? If they really do look back at their actions with regret, then they would understand why universal forgiveness is realistically unattainable.

And if you’re looking for some really grand event of redemption, have it be in some way related to those they hurt. Have them help the mage underground, just for an example. 

If something is going to happen to give them an “initial wake up call” of sorts, I would much rather prefer it be at the benefit of a mage than the expense. And by that I mean, the “___ was made tranquil and now ___ see’s the light” fics kind of bother me. I’d personally much prefer a situation where say, “___ was about to be made tranquil but ___ helped them escape.” 

Those are just some quick tips I guess IMO?

Well I just got finished reading Batman #12 with Harper Row and when you're right, you're right. That was really good. Harper's made a really striking impression on me and now I feel tempted to just read all the comics she's featured in in chronically order(which I sort of did with Renee Montoya a while ago).

That might be difficult because the majority of her appearances are in weekly books that are only so-so in quality due to the fact that the writers were swapped out ever two issues (some of them are great! others, meh). 

However, Batman 18 and Detective Comics 21 are single stories that sort of make up a trilogy of Harper Row’s origin and I highly recommend them!

Idk if you've been asked this before, but what would your ideal set of companions for DA4 be? (Including both pre-existing characters and just general ideas for new characters). I know I would love to see Harding, Mae, and Briala as companions. And a Saarebas/Ex-Saarebas companion would be great.

If Maevaris is not a companion I hope she at least plays an advisor-like role and is an LI.

I feel like Dorian is probably going to be there, either again as a companion or NPC like Mae. I really want him to be there so he can be like, “Yeah I was an absolute ass to see slavery as anything other than 100% wrong and now lets stop it.” And if he says anything other than that I will be pretty cross.

If Calpernia is around I wanna see her as well!

Harding or a new character, I really hope there is a female dwarf companion. Preferably one that is also an LI because WTF we’ve been through three games and still not a single dwarf LI.

I think considering we’re probably gonna go toe to toe with the qunari again, a Tal Vashoth (and one that is very happily Tal Vashoth) of any kind would make a really cool companion, perspective wise. Both qunari companions plus Tallis have been pro-qun, at least to some extent. I’d love to have a companion that was a part of it and is very against it.

If we’re gonna have two elven companions I want them to get along. I'm not saying they have to agree on every single thing but I want them to be supportive and nice to each other. It seems like everyone is against the elves, they don’t need to be against themselves.

If we’re going to have an ex-slave companion I hope they are directly involved with trying to free other slaves, and that we can help them with this.

We’re probably going to have a Magister. It’s probably going to happen.

I don’t see how Briala could be a companion when she is busy trying to fix Orlais...

Also this is unrelated to companions but if we’re going to Tevinter I hope they’re gonna bring back blood magic and also not make it inherently evil... Just saying.
