Hello! Some time ago - like two years :') - you posted about working in the moon lists journal and I wanted to ask whether you had any thoughts on it. A friend of mine has recommended it as a place for reflections and you're the only other person I've ever seen talk about it.
yes I did moon lists during lockdown, it was kind of the perfect time to have a project like that as the world was otherwise monotonous and heavy — I think the good thing about it is it asks the same or similar questions each month so you can really see what changes and what doesn’t. I think like other guided journalling it’s not something I’ve embedded long term but it did help me to focus on my senses, joy and general reflection for a while. all in all probably a 7/10 for me with some elements being fantastic and others being just ok
What's been your most elegant way of saying no lately?
I haven't been doing much as of late because fatigue + depression + a really bad cold has had me housebound for a minute. But I've definitely used the following within the past 8 months:
-I'm having a life event and I am unable to participate.

Describe a moment where your internal experience clashed—absurdly!—with the surrounding aesthetic.
I played mas this year but I wasn't sure I was going to. De money did done spend and I had to make a conscious effort to go forth and keep pushing despite all the issues I was dealing with. While I had fun, there was a moment - while at the lunch stop right amidst the sea of masqueraders, color, laughter, and music - where it all felt too much. I started to spiral and I could feel the panic overtake me, and I felt torn between throwing up, passing out, or screaming in frustration.
Looking back, I was probably dealing with some blood sugar or pressure issues as well because it happened right after I stood up, and I was barely eating for weeks prior.
It was unnerving to go from having so much joy while crossing the stage to having a mild panic attack all within an hour, in one of the biggest celebrations in our culture.
What are your current “who cares?” indulgences? Not the obvious splurges, more like the things you’re choosing because they’re ridiculous? Buying the plastic container of pre-sliced mango. Ghosting the group chat. Upgrading to first class… on a one-hour flight.
I sometimes buy a first-class ticket if a flight is 3 hours or more. After I started leaning into travel hacking, it has become much easier to validate and afford purchasing them. Most of the time, I use points to book the most affordable economy flight, then update to first class from there but sometimes the first class price isn't as far from the economy flight, and depending on what status/redemption I want to achieve, I'll splurge on the first class to hit the requirement. It takes some work but it's fun and exciting for me to get those wins. My couponing skills definitely helped prepare me for it.
The biggest win is booking first class with the lowest number of miles - those are rare but definitely my favourite easter eggs.
