@moongccddess asked -> ❛ was that a joke? ❜
everything froze - even the god's heart stilled for a breath, like hell itself was running her words over again and again just as his own thoughts were. a joke. humorless as death, he slowly turned to face her, blinking slowly. a joke. he wasn't sure if anyone had ever asked him that before. had he even told a joke before?
he was reminded of simpler times, happier days. before he realized his brothers had tricked him, before he knew they saw him as the lesser of three. maybe then, he'd have told jokes. maybe then, he'd turn with laughter in his eyes, a rusty smile in smile from lack of use.
" do i look like a person who tells jokes? " he finally broke the silence, staring down the speaker with a blank, unreadable face. " is there anything about me you'd find comedic, in any sense of the word? only the fools find death a joke. "
but he wasn't death itself, only it's lord. and he wasn't immune to humor, even if it had been centuries since he thought himself capable. and maybe, just maybe - maybe his sarcastic comments were a sort of form of joke, one he hadn't realized was still there inside of him. like a morsel of humanity, or at least of something gentle, suddenly flaring alive inside. " ...did you find it funny? "
