I wanna waste time just looking up the sky
Full of stars, mind wandering far

Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. So much so that I love having traditional American breakfast foods at any time of day, be it lunch, dinner, or that guilt-ridden late night snack. There’s no guilt involved in indulging in Moonlight Breakfast, however. You can take in the Romanian trio’s recent single Look Up via its chromatic music video with no remorse, reveling in its crisp pulsing, vibrant throbbing synthpop, reminiscent of a cross between CHVRCHES and Chairlift, with a touch of Télépopmusik. Look Up has been out since last month on Echoism Records. You can also stream it via Spotify, here.
Moonlight Breakfast – “Time”
SXSW 2018 - OEB Score 8; Popularity Index: 9
Pairs Well With… Amy Winehouse, Avicii, St. Vincent
Moonlight Breakfast calls their music “retro-electro” -- which means that in any given song there could be elements of electro, dub beats, nu-jazz, and swing. The band is from Bucharest which makes sense. Sometimes it takes a foreign ear to mash genres in a way that truly works. It helps that singer Cristina Siia, has a voice like Amy Winehouse and that each member of the band is a talented multi-instrumentalist -- including prominent doses of clarinet – they are from Eastern Europe after all. “Time” and “Still” are good examples of Moonlight Breakfast’s jazz lounge side. The band has also posted numerous remixes of their songs suited for the European club scene. Try “Silent Disco” and “Shout.” A smart move might be for the band to stick with their more acoustic versions for any daytime sets (as yet unannounced) but turn their Saturday night showcase at Friends into an all-out dance party. However, if perchance, with their music still humming in your ears, you chose to satisfy your end of festival munchies with an egg taco at a picnic table by a food truck, sadly you will be eating in the dark. March 17th is the start of a new moon phase. (guest reviewer: David Zlotnick)
Moonlight Breakfast - Summer
Life´s too short for weird music - Tagesempfehlung 02.02.2022
Moonlight Breakfast / Miss you
Moonlight Breakfast - Miss You
The latest track from Austrian-based Romanian synth pop outfit Moonlight Breakfast is a charming new single for song “Miss You”. Not unlike their previous few, the track resonates with a cosmic air of soaring vocals and glitchy synths. A quirky single which trickles through clunky synths and the reassuring calm of vocalist Cristina Sîia’s soothing tones, “Miss You ” is about, “Making it count like we only have today” as the band explains:
“If anything, we all need to hear, ‘Hey, everything will be OK every once in a while. The ‘Miss You’ chorus is something we’ve definitely all felt during the past 2 years. What starts off as a love song ends up being much more than that. It could easily be a song that sums up what we’ve all been feeling. Whether it’s missing someone, missing your friends, missing face to face conversations, missing dancing in a room full of people and the list is long.”
You can check out the track alongside the funky disco flex and weaving synths of previous track “Keep Walking”:

Moonlight Breakfast - Affection
The latest track from Bucharest’s Bazooka and Christie of Moonlight Breakfast, the Romanian synth pop outfit present “Affection”. A fun, joyous track with gooey gobs of glowing synthesizer, “Affection” resonates with a cosmic, disco air. Though Christie’s vocals bring a certain warmth and reassurance to the track, “Affection” is contrasted by the saturating reverb of the track’s resonant sound giving a spacey distance to its lofty, expansive ambiance. Speaking about the track and its reassuring words of warmth and comfort, Moonlight Breakfast had this to say about “Affection”:
“It’s not just about us, it’s about all of us! Affection and solidarity is our strongest confidence. ‘I feel grateful for every second I get to spend with you’, is to sum up the whole idea (behind the track). It’s about not taking things for granted and appreciating the amazing journey that is spending your life with the people you love. In the end, all we need is affection.”

Moonlight Breakfast - Snowflakes
If you’re looking for a reprieve from the usual holiday anthems, Romanian synth pop collective Moonlight Breakfast offers their wintery alternative with their latest single “Snowflakes”. A track to reinvigorate their previous track “Gingerbread” which appears as a B-side to their latest single, Moonlight Breakfast wanted to re-imagine a seasonal song from a new perspective. Adding a few different ingredients that they’ve cooked up over the years, “Snowflakes” like its name suggests is light, breezy and frosted with an ephemeral quality. Contrasting the quirky charm of its gooey synths to the lofty suspension of vocalist Cristina Siia’s reverb-saturated tenderness,“Snowflakes” captures the fleeting tenderness of a gentle winter snow.
