Y/n could tell something was off—not with the situation, but with herself. Seeing Batman in front of her was bringing up a feeling she couldn’t place her finger on, and his sidekicks weren’t making it any easier. He seemed familiar, they seemed familiar, as if she’d seen them somewhere before but couldn’t quite place it. And no, she knew it wasn’t through news channels or videos, it felt different, very different.
Batman’s glare sharpened by her lack of response or movement. He’d been expecting her to react verbally or physically, to at least acknowledge his words, but she didn’t. Behind him, the others glanced at each other wearily.
Toge raised his hand slowly, having it hang near the zipper of his uniform. He was planning to stay out of the confrontation if it did happen, but he was also not going to stand there defenseless if something did happen.
“Uh, what do I say?” Y/n whispered, turning to toge. He shrugged in response, having no idea what to say either. “I’ll just explain it, explanations always work, right?” She gave him a thumbs up, he nodded and gave a thumbs up in return.
“So, we can’t exactly leave yet.” Y/n began to explain. She quickly noticed how Batman’s fist clenched at his side. “Because we’re on a mission to remove curses before they turn into a problem for this city.” She smiled at them.
“Gotham doesn’t need your help, we can handle the curses and anything else you’re after. Now leave.” He commanded, again.
“Then how were there an overwhelming number of curses when we arrived?” Y/n asked, humming at the end. “If you can handle them, we wouldn’t have seen so many. But you can’t handle them, so just accept our help.”
Batman’s glare narrowed even more, y/n was convinced his eyes would close if he narrowed them further. “Have it your way.” He responded.
“What’s that supposed to-“ y/n was cut off by batman side stepping, revealing his Batmobile that was parked behind him. The lights flashed brightly, they would’ve blinded her if she wasn’t wearing gojos super duper dark sunglasses. She’d asked about that, apparently they were costume built for him due to the six eyes, so they totally blocked everything out.
Y/n raised an eyebrow as two cables were shot from the vehicle, flying through the air with electricity crackling at the end of each cable. They stopped a foot away from her, the electricity visibly slowed down by something.
Toge stepped back, letting her handle it. However, he was confused on how she’d done that before remembering the conversation between her and gojo. His eyes widened in realization, perhaps gojo wasn’t just talking like he’d originally assumed, y/n really did have the neutral application of the limitless technique.
Batman was shocked as well, but his face didn’t betray him by revealing anything, it was still as stoic as before. His sidekicks were a different story, each were wearing their emotions on their face, too stunned to hide it.
Y/n took a step back, the cables dropping to the ground and laying there pathetically, electricity still coursing through the ends.
The curse from earlier took a chance, lunging from behind the container and knocking it down, making everyone glance towards it, confused by its actions and on guard. It slithered through the ground rapidly, closing the distance between itself and the cables before shoving them in its mouth.
Everything was silent for a few seconds, everyone simply stared at the curse, equally confused by its actions. Y/n looked at the vigilantes, her eyes narrowing as she noticed something. They could see the curse.
That was usually not something that happened since non-sorcerers wouldn’t be able to see curses, but the fact that they could see it was rather alarming. Her attention turned back to the curse, watching its body convulse before it exploded.
“Really?” She deadpanned. “It died from that?” Nobody believed it had died that easily, not even she did so. Y/n could sense something was amiss. She could vaguely remember gojos teachings about when a non-sorcerer would be able to see curses.
Some random flashback
“Usually, non-sorcerers are unable to see curses. However, some conditions can be met which allows them to see curses.” Gojo explained, laying lazily on his couch.
“One, cursed tools. Just like maki. Even though maki is a sorcerer, she can’t see curses like we can. So she uses glasses imbued with cursed energy to see them, just as how she uses cursed tools to exorcise them.”
“Two, life or death scenarios. Once non-sorcerers are near a situation where their lives might end, they can temporarily gain the ability to see the curses near them. If they keep the ability—if they survive—is a different story.”
Flashback end
The dust from the dead curse began to rise, slowly fading with the wind. Y/n and toge watched, about to shrug it off as a curse dying randomly until the dust stopped fading and began to form into something else.
Something more dangerous.
Everyone in the area was stunned into silence, because right before their eyes, they were witnessing the creation of a special grade curse.
Y/n looked over at Toge, shocked since this was the first time she was seeing it happen. Gojo had told her that curses could evolve, but this was still a shocking sight to see.
“Leave! It’s not safe here anymore!” Y/n shouted, trying to get Gothams vigilantes to leave so that she and Toge could handle the curse that was still evolving.
Batman glared at her. As much as he wanted to decline and tell her to leave instead, something deep in his chest felt wrong. He’d never been able to see curses without outside help from Constantine or Zatanna, so seeing it in person felt off.
“Maybe we should listen this once.” Dicks voice came from the comms. “This is way out of our league, we don’t even know how to take them down. Even she looks concerned, and she’s untouchable, literally.”
“Fine, everyone retreat. Now. Let the sorcerers handle this one, but don’t-“ his orders were interrupted when a new deep, scratchy voice came from the curse.
“Domain expansion…”

Rather short chapter. Wanted to finish this one to get it out on time for this week before the weekend.
Also working on other stuff so I want to work on those as well to release them this week along with this chapter
