Hello friend this is my first time doing Camp Nano and I'm so nervous aaa do you have any advice on starting out?

try not to stress too much about having an awesome beginning, because you can always go back and change it later, chances are everything you write now is going to get rewritten so if something doesn’t sound right, just ignore it and keep writing, don’t let it take away any momentum you have in writing, because that momentum is going to carry you through the story. just make a note of it (or don’t, I tend to not because even if something sounds off when I’m writing it, chances are it won’t when you reread it, we tend to be extra critical as we’re writing), and move on

knowing your characters is a good place to start, because characters carry the story, if you really know your characters, the story itself should flow easily

and one of the most important things I think for someone doing NaNo for the first time is to have fun with it. because NaNo, and especially Camp NaNo, is about having fun with it. if your story bores you, add something to make it more interesting. if you find yourself not wanting to write the story, then change it up, keep it interesting for you. can’t think of a plot point? throw in whatever random thing you want to, aliens, murder, a giant herd of camels stampeding through the whole town. 

also, use the resources around you. talk to your cabin mates, talk to your friends here on tumblr. there’s always going to be someone around who can help. although, those last two things are more for keeping going rather than starting out.
