Hi! I see you posting about Monster Hunter World lol. So, my boyfriend and I got the game thinking that we can play the story missions together. I've read that in order for us both to do it together, we'd have to wait for the cutscenes (at least up to the introduction of the monster) play out in our own sessions, then one of us shoots an SOS flare and the other leaves the quest to go join the one who shot the SOS flare. Is that true? I don't know how it works :(
Pretty much, sadly. They place a lot of emphasis on the monster reveals in this game so you can’t just “accept” a mission that’s assigned. (Why they just won’t let a higher level who has seen a cutscene before just watch the cutscene with you, I just don’t get). But that’s how they do. And if both you and your bf are at the same level, it makes it that much harder because BOTH of you have to play solo for the cutscene to get past that barrier before deciding if you wanna back out to the base and take the mission on together or just bite the bullet and go solo. But make sure you and your BF are in in the same session on XBOX/PS4 before firing the SOS (you should see their name in the left side of your screen) - that way you or your BF can either just answer the SOS OR just join the actual mission from the mission board when the cutscene ends. A prompt that says “SOS Flares can now be fired” should appear immediately when you’re allowed other players to join the quest. When that happens, you should be able to access the flare in the hunter’s menu and fire it, and the other should be able to respond by responding to the flare or accepting the quest you posted at the Quest Board.
