With the self-righteousness, arrogance, stubbornness, and absolutism? Yeah, I have no problem with John as a Gryffindor. (Okay, that's not fair, he also has the good Gryff traits like bravery and tenacity. But wow John is a great example of what happens when a Gryffindor goes off the rails.)

I can see Dean begging to get into Gryffindor because he thinks putting his own physical and mental health on the line for other people is all he's good for, and that's what he thinks bravery is. But even though the Sorting Hat usually takes a kid's preference very much into account, in this case it whispers in Dean's ear, "I hear you, but you're just going to have to trust me on this one... HUFFLEPUFF."
