I can't say this with absolute certainty because his personal blog where he recounted this story has slipped quietly off into the ether. But if I remember correctly these were mug shots from community service he served. It was for some internet related infraction of course, perhaps to do with 4chan but I can't remember anymore details than that. Moot was 16-18 years old when these were taken.

He said it was the first time he'd been away from a computer and outdoors for a significant amount of time, and that had a profoundly positive impact on him going forward.
