Golden Beauty Near Mora, New Mexico - taken in the Autumn of 1996 or ‘97 This is near where the current Hermit’s Peak & Calf Canyon Wildfire is burning. Please follow Smokey’s admonition and remember, “Only you can prevent forest fires.” The original Smokey The Bear was a survivor of a wildfire in Lincoln National Forest in 1950. The cub was eventually presented to the National Zoo where he lived for 26 years.
