I lived in Queensland when Daniel Morcombe was abducted, I was 9 years old and I still remember how frantic my school worked on educating all the students on safety procedures to use if you're ever in a situation like that. I remember how scared I was to even playing in the street because we lived about an hour away from where he was abducted. The Morcombe family put every cent the had into finding their son and would not rest until they did, every week there would be something in the newspapers or on the televisions about his disappearance. I don't usually post things like this but if you lived in Queensland from 2003 on wards then you would know about how hard the Morcombe family worked to find out what happened to their missing child. Today a man was charged with the abduction and murder of Daniel Morcombe.
Although I don't live in Queensland anymore, I know that the streets would now feel a little safer.I hope the Morcombe family has some form of closure now and can finally sleep easy knowing the man that put them through 10 horrible years is going to rot in jail.
R.I.P Daniel Morcombe
Feeling so anxious and emotional waiting for the Daniel Morcombe verdict
The name Daniel Morcombe means a lot of things to different people.
For parents, he's a reason to hold their own children a little tighter at night.
For police, it became a mantra to never give up.
For those who just followed the story on the news, his name was synonymous with those clichés we use when we don't have the words to articulate the horror “a loss of innocence”, “every parent's worst nightmare” and a call to arms to do what they could to help.
But for those who knew Daniel, the boy – not the symbol or the investigation – the name Daniel Morcombe means love, home and family.
A lost boy, found.
Rest in Peace.
