this was gonna be one of the critters that runs around my brain and pilots me but i lowkey just started adding stuff so idek
the thing about horror movies is that there’s a careful balance that must be struck between the Horrors and the various themes that the Horrors represent (and they always always represent something) so when the Horrors are really in sync with the themes for a person, the horror viewing experience can be really excellent and the violence cathartic. this depends heavily on creative execution but also the headspace of the viewer when they’re actually watching the film. so if you’re in the right time and space for the Horrors as well as the Themes then watching a horror film can feel something akin to apotheosis. but if the power of the Horrors outweighs the power of the Themes, then you get an experience that kind of feels like that WWI ptsd army guy meme. which can also be a rewarding experience dgmw but jesus christ. sometimes it puts you in the headspace of somebody who just does not watch horror movies. this post also functions as my review of when evil lurks btw. thank you
