I just saw your post about getting a cat, and I did NOT know that tattooing your cat's ear out clipping it was a thing. I'm in the UK and both my babies are neutered and chipped, but nothing else was done. It makes me wonder why things so different in different countries - I was so horrified to learn about de-clawing a few years ago (which is considered cruelty here thankfully). Do dogs and other pets go through this too, or is it something specific to cats? (I'm asking sincerely, sorry tone is hard in text, I'm just really curious as to why these things are done)
I can't tell you how prevalent the tattooing for microchipping is, as Tic-Tac has one, but Luna does not. Both have the tattoo for the desexing, though.
In Australia, I believe it became mandatory for cats to be tattooed in 2009 to prevent unnecessary surgery, especially as female cats can be difficult to tell if they're spayed.
Reminder, the tattoos are done whilst the cats are asleep under anaesthetic and it's more like a stamp tattoo.. Don't think of a vet with a tattoo gun. Lol. This may be why Luna doesn't have a microchipping tattoo: we microchipped her at the vet, which can be done while they're awake (it's just like an injection in the scruff of the neck).
Tic-Tac was microchipped probably at the same time as his neutering at the shelter, so was tattooed.
For those who don't know: declawing is cruel and inhumane. It's become illegal in many places.
Cats are digitigrades, meaning they walk on their toes. Declawing is the same as removing the first knuckle of your fingers. Cats who are declawed struggle to walk afterwards, are distressed, can't fend for themselves and show signs of depression.
I had another dream about him.
He was back alive, but missing his eyes and slower, he was purring and wanted to be on my lap in a big blanket. He kept getting stuck in the chair under the desk in the backroom back home. I was aware I was dreaming so I could kind of control it and stay asleep with him. I just want to see him again so badly. I cant live like this without him. I can only sleep so I can hopefully see him again and hold him again.
