Answers are requested: I workout at home, and usually alone. I have a weight bench and some free weights which have done me well so far. But I can't really push my max weight too far. I tried getting myself to my max, but without a spotter, I almost concluded myself. So I've been looking into simple, sturdy, tension rod based equipment I can use alone without fear of crushing myself under a weight I can't lift. I recognize bowflex is the McDonald's of home weight machines, but it's also what I was looking for: (1) well reviewed (2) fairly inexpensive and (3) comparatively safe. The question of "why now?" is answered with "drunk".
